Word of the day is ‘lickspittle’ (17th century): a person who fawns upon someone in power for personal gain.

Scarily addicted to Burnout Revenge and Burnout Paradise

I know it’s pretty low on the list of Gene Hackman roles, and only has the ranking it does b/c of its obvious, unspoken link to #1 - “The Conversation” — but right now I’m thinking of him in “Enemy of the State,” shouting at Will Smith: “You made a phone call!”

Hot take : Steffi Graf's 1988 was the most dominant year for *any* tennis player. Aus Open : Didn't lose a set, lost 29 games for the whole tournament. French Open : Won the final in 34 minutes, 6-0, 6-0. Also won Wimbledon, US Open, Olympic Gold medal. Lost 3 matches in the whole year.

Go read a book.

Can any of you beat this absolutely stunning beast of an Amaryllis? I am LOVING IT.

All right y’all, so here’s the deal. We’re struggling. Our monthly goal is to sell 1500 books. This month, we’ve sold less than 400. We need your help. We HAVE to sell 1500 books by the end of Feb to keep our doors open. This was supposed to be a video, but Bluesky can't do 2 mins of video(Thread)

Given the immense vastness of all the music ever created by humanity, it’s such a weird coincidence that the very best songs all happened to be released when I was aged 14-21.

I’m also here for glode or glid instead of glided, and strove instead of strived. We’ve lost many of our strong verbs and these days simply tack on an ‘-ed’ in the past tense (texted? Why not ‘toxt’?). US English retains more of them: there is poetry in ‘dove’, as opposed to ‘dived’.

Glorious wintertime ❄️

Depressed? Never fear, you too can temporarily escape the horrifying grips of your current reality with this one trick: A book.

We haven't sold any books in days. Just a quick reminder that we do indeed sell books.

Word of the day is ‘librocubicularist’: one who loves nothing better than reading in bed. (Not easy to say, but I’m glad to know it exists).

First post on blue sky and it’s the first day of snow here! ❄️
