I see these hot takes: "Academia had it coming for [reasons]." The problem with this is that unless you can explain why immigrants, LGBTQ people, minorities, teachers, federal employees, aid workers, health professionals, etc., ALSO had it coming, you'll end up short of a parsimonious explanation.

I'm don't think the data supports that the global far-right is radicalizing "almost exclusively young men". The global far right is recruiting large numbers of men and women in the 30-65 age bracket. The reason young men stand out in analysis is because young women are the ONLY group moving left.

Another example of appalling media bias. This German story makes a big play that an attacker was a Syrian immigrant and totally buries the fact that the big hero of the day was another Syrian immigrant who rammed the attacker with his food delivery truck to save lives. A far better story.

All my life I have studied democratization and autocratization. My 1st field trip was to newly democratic Argentina. I then added autocracies to my portfolio: Cuba, Ven, etc. I think I can recognize the stages of transition to authoritarianism. Here are the boxes Trump has already checked off.
