New recently published article: The Backbone of Participatory Science: Reframing Citizen Observatories as Research Infrastructures

I recently caved and tried YouTube payables and… wow, it was worse than I expected and my expectations are low. I’m astounded at how bad the performance is/how janky the interaction is. We know how to make performant web games! And these are pretty simple!

Every once in a while, I have to sit down and remind myself what my values are, my mission, what I care about - what I want to do and why. Setting a 10,000ft view to get out of feeling lost and overwhelmed, especially when the minutia start to take over.

Excited to be joining this as well over the next couple days. Lots of important discussions to be had, and great to connect with many thoughtful colleagues. So special to be in a room surrounded by people talking #citizenscience!

Hello World The Eterna RNA structure modeling and puzzle platform has landed in the much happier place. We look forward to continuing conversations with the biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, machine learning, and participatory science communities.

Started playing Split Fiction last night, and it is so, so good. Beautiful, fun, great writing and sound… All around brilliant. @hazelightgames.bsky.social knocking it out of the park again.

Doom now runs in @typescriptlang.org types. What a journey this one's been.

Today was a good day - work swung away from “ambiguous problem definition” to “satisfying algorithm implementation”. And I feel like I’m once again making some progress against my todo list. Oh how I missed this!

BLIND GAMER TURNS 10 YEARS OLD!! On Feb 24, 2015 I uploaded the first BLIND GAMER episode to my YouTube channel. 10 years later it has changed my life forever. So let's celebrate with a special LIVE STREAM on Twitch AND YOUTUBE! Feb 24th @ 10:30am EST twitch.tv/stevesaylor youtube.com/@stevesaylor

This concept of perception vs execution meta-skills is true for many skills. I feel we don’t talk enough about the importance and mechanisms of developing each (and differentiating where your gaps lie). There’s also some interesting implications in (good and bad) criticism

There's something weirdly satisfying about having created an issue in the JIRA JIRA (meta-JIRA?) for a small UI gripe which received over 200 votes since 2018 and was just marked resolved recently. I don't even use it at this point but "hey my little noise about the big product was noticed"

Apply everything in the linked article to the video game industry. And this... *mwah* "The value of research doesn’t come from elevating people who are already shouting. It comes from finding the people who are not being heard, and adding their voices to the conversation."
