So much more interesting (and sustainable) than SpaceX’s littering of near space

For those who are interested, Glasgow Uncovered, my book of walks around the city, is now available from the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) bookshop on Rutland Square in Edinburgh. #glasgow #book #scotland #visitscotland #visitglasgow #edinburgh @riasbookshop.bsky.social

There were 5, but I only managed to get 4 in shot.

We were robbed last night. When it’s our stock or our money that is targeted, there’s insurance and systems in place for this, but when it’s stealing from a charity in an extremely direct way then we just can’t abide it. scottishbooktrust.com/donate @scottishbooktrust.bsky.social

It's a bit like a Cold War Steve, tbh.

In need of a destination, I strolled up this afternoon to the Edinburgh version, a gift to the city from Marks & Spencer in 1984, likewise ‘to enable people with impaired vision to enjoy the grandeur of the city. Crafted by sculptor David Westby. pssauk.org/public-sculp... #todayswalk

I shouldn’t share conspiracy accounts but I had a similar #banking experience. A few months ago I went to the bank to withdraw a few hundred pounds. I felt very uneasy at being asked what the money was for. Unbelievably, a couple weeks later, someone phoned me on my personal mobile (contd.)

Enjoy the solstice. After June 21st the days get shorter, the nights longer, our headlong descent into the howling abyss faster, and our prayers for a swift and merciful release louder and increasingly hysterical. Never mind, it'll soon be Christmas, if we last that long. Cheers!

I’d forgotten about this sundial Prince Albert had had erected in the Meadows, with its cautionary message for social media users. I passed it this morning.

A good day for visiting gardens, and thinking about non-violence #bloomscrolling

"Welsh, Cornish, Scottish Gaelic and Irish language speakers have come together for a pioneering cultural exchange celebrating their shared linguistic heritage"

I saw a pheasant by the roadside in Holyrood Park the other day.

Paris is transforming its landscape and climate by planting a large number of trees (native species) in the city to lower temperatures and improve rainwater runoff to reduce flooding and improve air quality in the city. This is the way intelligent humans change the cities they live in.

In today’s #PhotoOfTheWeek, we highlight some of CERN’s many iconic places: 1️⃣ CERN Science Gateway, our science centre for education and outreach 2️⃣ The tunnel of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) 3️⃣ Globe of Science and Innovation

A friend recently told me he started every game as Black with 1…f5. I’ve been trying it this week & it’s been both interesting & successful. I mostly follow with 2…d5. (In response to the King’s pawn opening this is known as the Dutch Defence; and to 1. d4 the Fred Defence / Duras Gambit) #chess

What I think is a wooden sett, or cobblestone, unearthed during resurfacing work on Woodlands Terrace in the West End of Glasgow. Cont./ #glasgow #glasgowhistory #cobbledstreets #parkdistrict

Giddyup! On this day in 1878, motion pictures were born when photographer Eadweard Muybridge used 12 cameras to record a horse galloping to determine if all four horses's hooves left the ground. Judge for yourself. #moviesky #film #photography

The Loth Stone by Traprain Law, East Lothian. (Crushed a bollock squeezing through a fence to reach this, hope y’all appreciate the effort I go to 😳)

A familiar looking chap walked past me on Grafton Street. Several seconds later, the penny dropped, and I realised I’d just seen Henry Kelly.

As @baldiepete.bsky.social says in the 🧵: “The most important person that most people have never heard of.” James Clerk Maxwell unified electricity & magnetism. It underpins most of our modern world. He stands between Newton & Einstein in the pantheon of mathematical-physicists geniuses.

I wouldn’t normally admire a Porsche GT3 but this one had the number plate CUR3D, and the joy of that is infectious

The ripples from the Kinehan OCG etc now stretch from Russia to the Roseburn Path, via Tehran and Dublin, and since the attack in Albert Street in March, I’ve been slightly surprised that there’s been so little chatter about it on here. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
