The gloss is well and truly off the Dutch Defence now! #chess www.chess.com/game/1399204...

I’m spending a short week in Glasgow over the hols, looking forward to exploring a bit more!

Oh, there *are* five in shot, but I’m sure I missed a sixth.

Actually it should have been set at waist height, not shin height… I imagine it would not be comfortable for a visually impaired person to explore it in its current setting

(Too many people milling around to show the streetscape it’s situated in.)

PS - my stock response to that question will now always be “personal spending and expenses”. (I’ve been questioned twice, and was not probed beyond that answer.)

Those are two different issues, but a) the intrusiveness does seem to be increasing and b) there is perhaps so much digital banking now that staff are under-trained or under-experienced in over-the-counter telling. I’m going to leave that bank anyway.

Not so seriously, last week I went back to the same bank to withdraw a low 3 digit sum (I’ve misplaced my card but know it’s in the house.) Cue ten minutes of tabbing through a computer system by a teller so overwhelmed by the request I had to help them count out the money. Very weird.

to say there was a form I should have filled in at the time, but they’d forgotten to ask me, so could I pop back to the bank and fill it in to regularise the situation?! I said I would, but kind of just forgot.

I would like some delphiniums, alliums, and foxgloves, I think. And for the legion of bramble roots to magically vanish. Fence first.

Today I reverted to the Scandinavian Defence (I usually play either that or the Alekhine Defence as Black) and had my most accurate ever game. Coincidentally the last day (perhaps) of Club Tàileasg. #chess

… tho someone played the Dutch Defence against me this morning and it didn’t seem very difficult to fend off… Check out this #chess game: AnTaileasgadair vs Twenty_Two_Hundo - www.chess.com/game/1397256...

It’s an eccentric British thing where people dress up in red and recreate the sequences in Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights. I didn’t count, but it looked like over 100… and it certainly drew more spectators than the shinty! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mos...

Nice. That’s higher than my rating! Today there was a moment when the clock was running down here… I’m not sure my opponent realised that en passant was the way to get out of check.

Presumably these are swifts not swallows darting around Pilrig Park?
comment in response to post
Indeed! I was thinking that as I looked at the reduced to clear Mother’s Day Pink Freixenet and reed diffuser sets in Scotmid just now (though refrained).

That might explain why you just followed me! (I have a Crabbies Ginger Beer chilling in the freezer. I’d better not forget.)

Presumably the floor and the wally are from different periods. The combination of the two is 🫨

I’m maybe more lurid minded than most - though it surely does fall into the category of interesting + important - but it has also served to remind me how middle class Bluesky seems to be. Anyway, the Daily Record has been reporting most of the dots, and joining many of them up.
