This has just been weighing on me for weeks, and especially this week. I loved working at Goddard. People there were great and some of the most dedicated people I know. It's fundamentally non-partisan excellence in science and engineering. Everyone is busy there. And it will save virtually no money.

Take a look at the contribution to the commentary in Nature Astronomy by LPL graduate student Kayla Smith! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Local Tucson news has a good piece on OSIRIS-APEX being zeroed out of the proposed NASA budget. www.kgun9.com/news/local-n...

In ~5 years, we as a species are on track to embark on an incredible era of discovery, unlocking the secrets of the planet Venus. The missions @ESA_Envision, DAVINCI, and VERITAS will reveal Venus as we have never seen her before. But why should YOU care about our sister world?

Thanks to the Rimfax team in Norway for 3D printing a model of the Rimfax antenna for the Lego Perseverance rover. Now it looks complete! Bonus chaos cat - cat of Mars2020.

Large sections of Sabino Canyon Recreation Area, Mount Lemmon and Madera Canyon, and parts of Mount Graham, would be eligible for selling off as part of proposed Senate legislation that

Also very nice area to walk around, with hiking trails in the area. Gardnos meteor park is about 2 hr 40 min drive from Oslo.

Had a great time over the last week at the Perseverance rover team meeting in Oslo and visiting Gardnos crater! Recommend stopping by if you are in Norway, you can see pre-cambrian impact breccia.

"welcome home to Tucson" 🌵

Super puff planets, what will people think of next! 😂🔮

Copied from EnVision's account on the Other Netnwork: Meet the @ESA_Envision VenSpec science team 👋! Scientists working on our three instruments, VenSpec-H, VenSpec-M & VenSpec-U, have joined forces at the LATMOS site in Guyancourt, France, to maximize their science output.

Our global petition to save NASA science closes this Thursday, and we’re just shy of 15,000 signatures! Every name counts, this petition will be hand-delivered to members of Congress. Add yours today, Save NASA Science. planet.ly/petition

Last week, NASA and NSF released their FY26 budget requests. We list the detailed impacts on the astronomical sciences in this blog post, and share how you can take action today. aas.org/posts/news/2... @policy.aas.org

This years crop of baby screetch owls has started coming out. As usual they are already pretty big.

I think a lot of people don't understand that in a world where everyone uses "AI" to vomit out statistically average text, the ability to use words uniquely becomes a premium skill and a critical differentiator.

Congrats on 50 years ESA!

Wow first time that I saw a Gila monster in my yard since coming to Tucson!

This morning one cat has chosen napping, the other has chosen chaos and destruction. #choices

The President's Budget request as released yesterday will gut scientific research. Why should you care? 1) Science is fundamentally a jobs program. Many 100,000s are employed to do science and work for you, the US taxpayer.

Canceling OSIRIS-APEX, a paid for spacecraft on its way to the biggest news asteroid of 2029, makes no sense and damages our ability to conduct planetary defense.

SPACENEWS: NASA budget would cancel dozens of science missions, lay off thousands (But sets aside nearly $2 billion effectively earmarked for SpaceX) spacenews.com/nasa-budget-...

Wow. This proposes cutting over 1300 civil servants from NASA Goddard, a 46% cut in staff.

BREAKING: The president's budget request just hit Congress, which could usher in a dark age for NASA space science. Congress has the final say, but you can help shape the outcome by adding your name to our global petition. This is just the start of our fight. Sign the petition: planet.ly/petition

The NASA planetary science fleet chart if the president’s budget is enacted.

There is an economic multiplier to every science dollar spent. Just from the University of Arizona, the proposed cuts to NASA/NSF could pull hundreds of millions of dollars out of the southern Arizona economy. We are a place that has "Space is Wildcat country" banners on poles.

To me the most insane part of the proposed white house budget cuts to science is that they hardly save any money! They do not reduce the deficit in any meaningful way! We spend a small amount of money on science, which has yielded incredible returns.

We're going to learn some tough stuff today about the White House's proposed budget for fiscal year 2026—including what they have in mind for NASA. I'll share what I hear, but remember: CONGRESS decides how much money NASA gets, not the White House. So whatever happens today, the fight continues.

Hard to explain how much I love this grainy, long-exposure image from the Perseverance rover showing Deimos in the pre-dawn sky. Just hours before it was taken, I was also out in the cold, taking pictures of the sky, one planet away. Perseverance saw the very same constellations that I did.
