In addition to losing thousands of full time employees (50% of which are trained to fight fires, on average), this year the Forest Service has been prohibited from hiring seasonal workers (ie back up firefighters) The situation for western states is dire. 8/

also the court keeps saying (and imo correctly) that in general disputes between congress and the executive branch are not well handled by the court, but by, y'know, the congress asserting itself. If it cannot or will not, those powers atrophy

This all points to a key difference: The GOP relies on mega-donors, creating a greater vulnerability to oligarchical influence. Dems could easily fund their operations from smaller donations alone. and remain competitive Currently, the GOP couldn't. And partly helps explain why we're in this mess.

1. Negotiate better contracts for the Department of Defense. Giant contractors overcharge the DOD on nearly everything—including by more than 7,500% for soap dispensers. My recommendations on contracting would save nearly $200 billion in the next 12 years.
