Statement from Francesca Albanese & Eyal Weizman:

Terrible to see the cancellation of the public talk by Albanese with Eyal Weizman at FU Berlin after pressure by the mayor 🇩🇪 has contributed morally and materially to the destruction of Gaza; a moral catastrophe bsky.app/profile/robi...

“A kid”. The DOGE staffer in question 25 years old & the racist posts date from the ancient past of <checks notes> July & September. “Normalise Indian hate.” This is the vice-president normalising explicit, open, unabashed racism. We are in such a dark place.

Interested in how people talk to each other online? Care about causal inference and/or NLP? Want to design and implement field experiments? Come do a PhD with Dominik Hangartner, me, and a bunch of awesome people at IPL in Zurich: jobs.ethz.ch/job/view/JOP...

this doesn't happen very often! The response to Vance, below, discusses what the fact that you care more about the welfare of your brother than a stranger implies for foreign aid, which is what one of my PhD chapters was about. Here is is: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

My school @ucdpolitics.bsky.social has 2 positions (deadline Feb 21) one in Global Governance, one in Environmental Politics. They're called "Ad Astra Fellows" but between you & me they're basically tenure-track posts. It's a good deal. You get a PhD line & annual €5000 research budget for 5 years.

As part of the „academic circus“ that is descending on Frankfurt to discuss the silencing of discussions on Palestine I will talk about shrinking spaces at universities & the repression of Palestine solidarity protests in Germany with a stellar panel of colleagues Friday. Tune in

It is not merely useful for the German economy to have more migrants join our labor force. It is essential. (Jointly with increasing labor supply by two other large groups: women and 60-70 year olds.) Find the latest report to the federal ministry here: www.bmwk.de/Navigation/D...

Thrilled to share this @goodauth.bsky.social analysis, and sneak peak of forthcoming research, with @aasiegel.bsky.social at such an incredible time for Syria. Activists, inside and outside the country, have been working for their cause and communities throughout a brutal war. 1/2

This graph might cause nightmares for team OLS for #causalinference Continuous treatment randomly assigned; nonlinear effects The “average effect” of X on Y is +1 but the OLS estimate is -1. Dang. So should estimand be blp or ate or none of the above? macartan.github.io/assets/htmls...

Western policy makers did little to end the ordeal of those burried in Sednaya prison under the Assad's. But they can do a lot to prevent that political prisoners in Egypt suffer the same fate. #FreeAlaa #FreeThemAll

For the last 10 years there has been a LOT of confusion about what quantities survey experiments can estimate. Often they are just measurement devices and do not try to estimate any effects. If unsure, a good diagnostic question is: *could* I have measured both conditions for the same subject?

For those interested in social movement research, a good starter pack go.bsky.app/U8AjoRy

Put together a quick starter pack for political methodologists (broadly defined) who have made their way over to BlueSky. If I've missed folks, please let me know! go.bsky.app/JBavA7x
