I bought "Romanian Literature under Communism" by Eugen Negrici, a literary history book. It cost 16 Euro and will be my singular extra expense for the month, outside of necessary expenses. Got it because I don't know which Romanian novels are good from that time. There's JUST TOO MANY!... 1/2 🧵

Finished reading yesterday the Romanian novel "Padurea Spanzuratilor" (Forest of the Hanged) by Liviu Rebreanu written in 1922. While it does have typical Romanian-isms, they don't detract from the story, which is splendid. Apostol Bologa is a fantastic & compelling protagonist. #classics

These past 2 days, I've dropped reading 1 Romanian classical novel, Mara, by Ioan Slavici, because it's boring... But, I completed 3 exceptionally good stories: Of Mice and Men, The Yellow Wallpaper and Animal Farm. All very good, compelling and thought provoquing. I highly recommend all of them.

Took a ride in an ambulance today because I choked on a soft pretzel before going to sleep after work. Had some investigative procedures - laringoscopy and radiology - to make sure there's nothing in my airways. I'm fine now and I got yet another antibiotics treatment for my persistent cough. 😷

Currently reading Anna Karenina & shaping up to be one of my favorite classical novels. It's beautiful. Leo Tolstoy does NOT write like Feodor Dostoyevski; they're so different in style. Tolstoy's writing is more visceral, introspective and thoughtful, while the characters feel real, personal. 🌸💚❤️

I finished "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas this morning. It's an engaging story, the middle part meanders a little, but the pay off of all the plotting is well worth it. Edmund Dantes is one of the coolest characters ever written. He just oozes confidence and ambition. #classics

4th month with a sinus infection. I got some proper antibiotics from my GP doctor, but I need to get my immunity and lungs checked. I shouldn't be in a constant state of sickness all the time ;-; I may need to make myself a cloth mask to protect myself on the subway. 🤒

Since I have some money, I went in search for cheap books at antique/discount shops. The Toll was the most expensive (6 Euro), rest were like around 1/2 - 1 euro a piece. The Romanian novels are "The Tax Collector's Sleep" x 3 by Bujor Nedelcovici - 1970s & "Unmarried" by Tudor Lavric - 2006.

Sunday tradition over at my catboy's group & I watched today "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" the absurdist comedy. It's so entertaining and fun and I laughed my ass off several times. I love movies that are just fun to watch, as an experience, on top of having compelling stories and characters. ^-^
