On this day 2012, Journalis Marie Colvin and photographer Rémi Ochlik were killed by an attack of Assad regime on Baba Amr neighborhood in Homs city, Syria. Rest In Peace

Residents here get nature outside their windows, peaceful bike paths, a calming green buffer, and finally, some limited space for cars. This is how urban environments should be designed, for safety, livability, and well-being. It’s not that difficult. We can all have our own contextual-Utrecht.

BBC News on hour reporting straight that Trump has got rid of military chiefs because ‘they’re too mired in woke culture’ 🤯🤯🤯 Traditional liberal democratic media still hasn’t learned how to report on authoritarians, even now when it’s almost too late

Celadon glazed enclosed forms, sort of a lidded jar. Very happy the way these turned out. #celadon #glaze #pottery #ceramics #art #handmade #wheelthrown #necreatives #liddedjar #enclosedform

Water companies are pumping sewage in our sea and taking record profits. Labour refuses to nationalise them. In the exact same way he won't tax the wealth of the 1%, blames migrants & cut winter fuel for pensioners. Is it any surprise they're tanking?

The last thing King Donold wants is for millions of Americans to protest in Washington DC and just not leave.

“Over the last 10 years in England, the number of killed and seriously injured (KSI) casualties has increased in the most deprived decile, whereas in the least deprived decile rates have decreased. This deprivation-injury relationship is particularly prevalent among young pedestrians and cyclists”

So much this. The contrast with the time & energy it takes to try to figure out a vaguely safe route up here in the NE (& doubtless elsewhere) is striking. I cycled places I didn’t know today & worked between various map views to try to find a route that felt safe enough - but encountered all this:

I have video of the exact moment I was completely sold on vibrant cities, streets for people, and active transportation. It happened right here, and I lost all sense of reality. I felt like I was in a movie. This was my urbanist awakening, the moment I turned against car dependency. 👇

I wish this were less bad, but here we are. Mask up, folks. You do not want to find yourself living my life.

I appreciate everyone’s messages of support, I’m trying to get through all my mentions but as you can imagine, it’s been a bit of a busy day :) Remember - peaceful civil disobedience, and no kings, no tyrants. Not ever.

1. A few years ago, people like me were widely attacked in the media for “declinism”. How could we fail to see that we were heading into a capitalist utopia, in which everything would keep getting better? This is a thread about what we could see that our critics could not. 🧵

Chris Murphy: "My prediction is that if you vote for Kash Patel, more than any other confirmation vote you make, you will come to regret this one to your grave."

I rarely agree with Dan, to put it mildly, but this is an absolute bullseye. There's no grey area, not even an atom's worth.

It was an honor to sign the guest book in the home of Anne Frank. I was here as a younger man and thought about her life as a dark chapter of history. Today, I can’t help but think of her story as one of caution. Our world is fragile, and it’s incumbent on us not to break it.

Calling Zelensky a “Dictator” must be where the line is drawn says Ed Davey “It is my sincere hope that the whole political spectrum in the United Kingdom will speak with one voice in opposition to Trump’s lies” 👏

A price cap is not a cap if it follows the market, it’s a tracker.

This is the nub of the article that I disagree with. Sticking to the evidence *requires* picking a side on many issues that should never have been politics but now are: climate change, vaccines, public health... Staying neutral denies the science and that can't be scientific or right.

My company, an IT consultancy, was encouraged by the accounts to apply for R&D funding several times. Maybe my over developed sense of honesty and justice made me refuse on the basis that what we did may have been difficult and uncommon it was never real R&D.

There are some big flaws in Reform UK's anti-renewables policy: 1. Our high energy price is due to use of the most expensive source, which is gas 2. The fossil fuel industry received £20bn more subsidies than renewables 2015-2023 3. Most of the UK public is not against Net Zero

At the moment, mansion-sized Asteroid 2024-YR4 has a one-in-fifty chance of hitting Earth in the next eight years. Now might be a bad time to reduce spending on Science. Just sayin’.
