As for climate change, this is something beyond what Capitalism
- Decouple the application of policies from human actors, however inadequate the AI may be.
- Grab resources (minerary, personal data, ...)
- Offer privatized services (health, school, infrastructure, security) to whoever may afford to pay for them.

Every problem can be traced back to the establishment of the USA Petro-Dollar, Bretton Woods, Federal Reserve, Gas & Oil based economies, War Weapons based economies.
Reagan was just another paradigm shift further right in their Cult of Death.
Did the UK public sector need to own the hotel at St. Pancras, Sealink ferries? No.
Do cities need to own their buses? No.
But, > 90% made things worse.
Meanwhile in my town private companies charge £2 for 1 stop (fleecing the old and disabled) and this is subsidised with public money.
The private sector can run their own buses, people will ride the ones that make most sense to them.
(this, of course, is the opposite of deregulation—the services and contracts are heavily regulated; the local government authority is effectively a monopsony).

The MAGA-like rump is 20%-30% of almost every western country and has always been there. Trump is their lightning rod, a once in a lifetime clown show who hates all the same people they hate and who has the wide TV-level popularity to get elected.
