I draw and make paintings, and write about gardening, long covid, watching civilization's last fingers slip from a cliff, and living under the great Texas hell dome.

Catholic Nuns: “The Administration’s decision to deploy thousands of National Guard troops and Marines against these peaceful demonstrators, over the clear objections of local leaders, is un-American, dangerous, and counterproductive.” networklobby.org/news/militar...

i made a pumpkin arbor.

Summary: - Dude is an immigrant agricultural worker working in the US - ICE abducts and "detains" him - Private "detention" facility has him doing farmwork - So he's still an immigrant agricultural worker working in the US, but now paid only $1 a day Nobody's been convicted of a crime or anything

Make no mistake: creating in the face of hate and despair is an act of defiance.

The charges against Prof. Willoughby-Herard were finally dropped yesterday. She courageously defended UCI students against police stifling dissent against Israel's genocide in Gaza. I am inspired by her courage and honored to have represented her in this case. Solidarity with those who fight.

leftists: that thing you teach us in school to be terrified of is happening historians: that thing is definitely happening star wars: here is a beat-for-beat breakdown of how the thing happens, but with pew pew lasers. we know you watched it news outlets: these protesters are out of control

"In addition to the loss of rare taxa, many reports mention sweeping declines of formerly abundant insects, raising concerns about ecosystem function." www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

this was cute at but absolutely silly, and while I did get a few plants, they were unable to compete with the direct sown seeds I planted in March. I'll make a less haphazard and better lit seed starter next year, and hopefully it will also be cute and make nice starts while i wash dishes.

More people should be talking about the utter freak that is Stephen Miller and his white nationalist worldview. He's the architect behind most of this chaos as Trump is golfing, falling asleep during meetings, making money of memecoins and tripping while climbing stairs.

"They are waving flags of foreign countries and assaulting police officers" Assaulting law enforcement with American, Confederate, and MAGA flags will get you a pardon though.

I own eyeshadow older than ICE. Like, what is even the point.

ICE crossed a line in LA

Thinking a lot about this meme today.

This literally goes back to the French Revolution. The Right insisted that all unrest was fomented by elite actors, and were still insisting that was the truth, right through the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was still a dominant narrative when George Rudé wrote to counter it in the 1950s.

To be fair it's easy to be vindicated when your commitment is "the border Gestapo are evil and should not exist" Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

There's a person on Twitter who for years ended every single tweet, easily thousands of them, with "Moreover, lCE must be abolished" and I've never seen someone so vindicated in their commitment

live from the huge spontaneous anti-ICE protest after the agency used military-style tactics during a series of raids in Los Angeles today.

how I learned to stop worrying about black helicopters peeking in my bathroom window and love the all-seeing Eye of Sauron

NEW: Texas lawmakers are ordering all sheriff's offices to seek federal collaboration agreements with ICE. Those agreements may be limited to jailhouses—or they may convert deputies into roving immigration agents. 🧵 texasobserver.org/legislature-... w/ @gusbova.bsky.social

BREAKING: Texas lawmakers passed S.B. 37, which dramatically increases state control of public universities. Allowing politically appointed bureaucrats to police curricula and override faculty expertise is a direct threat to academic freedom in Texas.

😢SB37 is heading to the Governor’s desk. We fought hard against this bill, which dramatically increases state control over Texas public universities. It’s slightly improved, but don’t believe the bill’s supporters when they say it won’t lead to a brain drain. www.texastribune.org/2025/05/24/t...

Reggie Watts addresses Thom Yorke’s statement on Palestine and it’s good

The Austin storm was bad. Just took a walk. Not a screen spared in the whole block. Most plants gone. The wind knocked down small trees and broke big ones. Saw three wooden fences down. Lost count of busted windows. All mine survived. Hope y’all are safe!

A fascinating view of a isolated supercell racing across Texas yesterday evening. The storm brought damaging winds and large hail to the city of Austin.

It's a hail storm summer in Austin. It was 100 degrees just a few days ago. I'm sure this has nothing to do with global warming.
