The head of our country’s government is in the early stages of consolidating total power. We must of course reject this, but that is not enough. We have to respond by creating a different and better kind of American politics than we have seen before.

I'm running out of words to describe this onslaught of closures of science centers and programs. Heartbreaking isn't enough. Gut punch isn't enough. In two months we are seeing damage that will take literal years or decades to repair, should we get the chance.

Hands off credit unions!! The big banks have such crappy customer service, I do 95% of my banking with credit unions...which r great!! I had to battle with Citibank for a month+ to get records I needed for an audit...that they are required to provide. Credit Union took 24 hours.

Mirror, mirror on the wall...

Georgia's capital, Tbilisi, roars once more with the demands of its people: freedom for political prisoners, justice for all and free and fair elections in Georgia, which have been suppressed by the pro-Russian and authoritarian political force Georgian Dream party.

@schumer.senate.gov @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social Do your jobs. Or step aside for those who will.

bloomberg: ~90% of deported migrants to el salvador had no criminal record

We've reached the point in our descent into fascism where the Jewish governor's house getting firebombed on Passover by a guy trying to bash his head in with a sledgehammer is overshadowed by the story of the President saying he wants to build foreign gulags for US citizens.

I doubt that anyone from America who goes into CECOT will ever come out. And this is by design. If indefinite imprisonment with no prospect of release imposed by fiat without due process isn’t the definition of a gulag, then I don’t know what is.

This, from the Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Your regular reminder that almost everything Trump is getting away with is not because of presidential strength, but because of congressional weakness and judicial deference. The constitutional tools are already there to fix this, but those who can fix it are refusing to do so.

Days before masked ICE agents detained Tufts student Rumeysa Ozturk to deport her, Dept determined that the admin had not produced any evidence showing she engaged in antisemitic activities or made public statements supporting a terrorist organization www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

We all want our government to work efficiently. But cutting Social Security to give tax cuts to billionaires isn’t efficient - it’s wrong.

It is horrifying no matter what — and there is still a lot to learn — but it’s particularly concerning that the Jewish PA Governor’s home was set on fire on the first night of Passover. apnews.com/article/josh...

This Tufts student was grabbed off the street, cuffed and taken out of state solely because she co-wrote a completely respectful oped in the student paper. And Rubio’s State Dept now admits they have nothing more damning than that. Gift link wapo.st/4j8d5Uh

If the US can negotiate with Russia get wrongfully arrested citizens back home, they surely can compel the leader of a central American country to return a detainee who we paid him to house.

Normally if someone tries to kill a governor, the president is briefed, calls the governor, and issues a statement committing resources to bringing perps to justice. It’s not just that we don’t expect Trump to be kind—we have to wonder if he’ll allow a real investigation at all.

An arson attempt on the Governor's home on the first night of Passover. What the hell.

When did America stop taking pride in excellence? Why are so many threatened by it?

Trump tried to bury this story on a Friday night, but it’s extremely important: He’s planning to take land on the border controlled by the Dept. of Interior and sign it over to Dept. of Defense so migrants “would have trespassed on a military installation,” resulting in harsher punishment.

Justice Sotomayor dissent: #SCOTUS

The SAVE Act is voter suppression — plain and simple. It targets women, low-income voters, and people of color by adding red tape to registration. 📞 Call your Senators: (202) 224-3121 🗳️ Tell them: Vote NO on the SAVE Act #SaveAct #politics #Persist

Rubio said she was wrongfully detained She was detained for the SAME thing as he is expelling student visa holders for...expressing an opinion about foreign affairs. She donated to Razom, a US Ukrainian assistance NGO the day of the invasion in 2022. She entered Russia in 2024.

Where is this?

if they can declare an immigrant administratively dead, they can do that to citizens too. ("Oh, I'm sorry Mr. Dissident, your bank account was closed because Social Security says you're deceased.")

Can we skip to the part of the movie when the superhero appears?

The "freight train" coming for the separation of church and state is receiving scant coverage. Before I left my job at POLITICO, I was heavily researching the case at the center of it all -- started in Oklahoma. Justice Barrett's good friend helped seed it, which I reported. I have more to share 👇

Everybody understand what’s coming next? If they can deport someone on the basis of “beliefs, statements or associations,” they can deport anyone who speaks out to a concentration camp in another country with no recourse. ANYONE.

This shit's scary. We must keep shining a harsh light on what these supervillains are doing with our personal data. The Nazis weaponized birth records, employment files, and medical info to track and persecute millions. We ignore history's lessons at our own peril. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/u...

“IDEAS”

The House is scheduled to vote on the SAVE Act later today. Learn more about what this voter suppression would do and why some Democrats have called it a "chainsaw to democracy."

The entire reason the FDIC exists is because of bank collapses and the Great Depression. People lost everything when a bank collapsed. The Federal Govt. ensures your deposit up to like $250k so people have faith in the banks which is important and so that the little guy doesn't get wiped out.

BREAKING: The White House has clarified that total U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods now stand at 145%, not 125%, following the latest hike. That $10 Amazon knickknack? It’ll now set you back $24.50. THIS IS TRUMPFLATION!

The 10% tariff alone is a $2500 per household annual tax hike!

Note Germany's chill on Georgia's 🇬🇪 EU candidacy 👇

I think it's very important to note that when you want to run human misery like a business--a business based on rounding up people to ship them to a country they aren't from to work in forced labor camps--you're a slaver. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Not OK Remember, FDIC was created after the disastrous bank runs which federal the Great Depression

Not acceptable in America

This is incredibly dangerous. If he can get away with this he will open a flood gate of targeted investigations of private citizens. We are stepping through the looking glass of fascism in real time! Congress needs to act immediately.

This isn't ok with me as an American Jew. This administration pretends to care about antisemitism when they are actually weaponizing it and using Jews as an excuse to get rid of people they don’t want here. (the next step will be screening Americans' social media activity for anti-Trump sentiment.)

Worth noting that this passed by one vote and two Democratic congresspeople have died in office in the last six weeks.

Authorities in #Istanbul, #Turkey, today indicted 5 photojournalists for covering the recent civil unrest as they didn't recognize them as members of the media. bianet.org/haber/savci-...

Dems should be pushing this hard. It's the exact sort of thing Fox and Newsmax et al will never report on.
