Ohh yeah, pondering and writing.

Utterly spectacular rustgills

I got sent some free* tea and found this powerful mushroom today. It's all coming together! *Kind of free. I made a donation, but didn't expect a hand written note and tea in return.

for centuries there have been stories by Māori about a green glow from the forest floor, which were written off as superstition because no Europeans ever saw them ... it turns out there's a bioluminescent fungi, mycena roseoflava, whose dim glow can't usually be seen due to light pollution.

Every time I got to the vet, they tell me how amazingly clean Hazel's teeth are. She is constantly cleaning them by poking holes into all sort of things around the house, I'm sure that helps.

I'm not sure I'm selling the whole "I can't change the weather" thing to my cat when I'm also saying "There will be some sun tomorrow"

Turns out I am teaching this on April 1 -- somewhere a Francophone deity is smiling... IYKYK

I spent last night in a bach on Rangitoto (delightful) and somehow a mozzie or three ended up in the room (not delightful). One bit me on the eyelid and lip, which I have decided is is possibly both maximum inconvenience and most alarming to wake up to. Anyway here's the view at sunset. Worth it.

After 4 years of hiatus, returning to the world of Consequence LARP was just like coming home. The character Cassie Marlow is one of the most interesting and challenging characters I have played. It's so good to be back. 📷: Bryn Jones First picture from this month, the second is from 2020.

Losers Weepers is today at Mt Albert Memorial Hall in Auckland and I will Be There With My Wares 😎

I met the people from Bona Books at WorldCon and they are fantastic folks. Go support this excellent initiative!

A few nights ago I woke up in the middle of the night, stumbled to my desk in a half-asleep daze, made a very important note, then went back to sleep

Both cats are trying alpaca today. So far very good ratings! I work so their hands can look like this etcetera

Almost certainly the best thing I was ever told about owls was when I met an owl handler and he said that the wild owls near the sanctuary where he worked worried about the tame show owls there and sometimes stopped by to leave them shrews and mice as presents.

Insurance sent a replacement phone to welcome in the new year, and I have never been so relieved to be able to take pet photos again

Favourite selfie of 2024: this one of me and @magicaljohan.bsky.social on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond

Probably one of the most exciting moments of the day was standing in a playground at 9pm and seeing a white climbing dome thing come seemingly floating up the dark road, bobbing up and down as it approached

The situation is dire with this temp phone

I had a drink of sparkling water and thought it was palatable this time, which I think means I'm officially scratching 30

The last few days have been a rollercoaster. I have broken my phone on a go-kart, made a ring, and discovered one of the cats might be allergic to the house bunny!

Submissions have opened on the Treaty Principles Bill. You'll almost certainly see a lot of individuals and groups with big followings telling you to submit using a template that they provide. I am pleading with you to not do this. It's the least effective way to participate.

Hmm. Presumably I can continue to post

Love this! I'm a sucker for old maps and love the Māori names over Anglicised bullshit.

Having bought a Winkl almost three year ago, this is a very fun thing to find out about them. At have, at least, never taken off the outer cover. It seemed inefficient, but may have also saved me from tiny glass shards... www.rnz.co.nz/news/busines...

So many bees at work in the garden at this time of year

He is an interior designer

Hazel's work here is done

Two years of being delightful nerds together.

Get yourself some artisanal bones

Nothing is a more effective 6.30am wake up than the roaring electrical sound of a pee-soaked power strip. Lil man is old. His medicine has him feeling well enough to sleep in my room again, but the litterbox is clearly too far away.

My new job had a marketing photoshoot but I also got to have fun and put on my Hugos shirt again.

It's amazing to me that "criticizing the use of AI" is supposedly classism, but "building a product on the stolen work of people with a median annual income of $25k and refusing to compensate them because you know they can't afford lawyers" isn't.

they expanded on these points, no it does not make them sound better.

Very important cat patting duties in progress
