"Diversity and domination can go hand in hand" @ruha9.bsky.social on why DEI was never going to work out Cc @miazamoraphd.bsky.social youtu.be/1VRCfuKEGdo?...

👍 AI mirage 👎 AI hallucination So many have objected to "hallucination" as a description of faulty AI outputs. We need a term that doesn't suggest conscious delusion. @xolotl.org and I analyzed 80+ alternatives and settled on "mirage." We make the case here: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

Don't you just hate it when you get an email titled "Special invitation" and it turns out to be a mass email? It makes it hard to prioritize the truly personal special invitations from the mass ones and just begs for attention then disappoints 😞

So question. Are the problems I keep having with Microsoft OneDrive outside my institution: A. Coz I am doing something wrong (I have 2 MS accounts, one institutional, one private) B. Coz sharers are doing something wrong C. Coz of institutional settings D. Coz MS OneDrive is stupid? I vote D

Thought provoking post from @mahabali.bsky.social on AI Shaming. And an excellent cake and AI analogy.

This was really quite excellent on how we deal with so-called AI in education.

Fantastic post from @mahabali.bsky.social Against AI Shaming. We actively held this view while we were writing our recent Friends of the Earth report on Harnessing AI for environmental justice. blog.mahabali.me/educational-...

Need help with #a11y - anyone ever supported someone blind to kearney visual financial literacy with complex graphs? I've read up on this and we have a tactile graphs maker which we will try. Anything else?

Against AI sharming: This is so important! I've had the impulse to stop listening to someone when they say something that seems like AI hype or, on the other hand, excessive dismissiveness of AI, and I need to check that impulse.

So much wisdom here, as usual from @mahabali.bsky.social Would this be too wordy for a T-shirt? 😉 "It is important for all of us to know the potential pitfalls and limitations of AI that have existed for years and will likely continue to exist, even if in some contexts AI is working wonderfully."

Have you seen the last episode of Season 2 of MO on Netflix? I watched it yesterday and I'm in awe of how much joy and pain and pride and suffering they managed to put into one episode. You don't need to watch anything before watching this episode.

Against AI Shaming blog.mahabali.me/educational-... Inspired by many conversations today, including one with @annamillsoer.bsky.social who stopped when I said the term "AI Shaming" and I realized I'd been saying it but never wrote about it...

I finally watched the last episode of Mo season 2 on Netflix. That was.... amazing. Everyone should watch it.

#academicsky In times of uncertainty, it is always a balm to my soul to connect with @miazamoraphd.bsky.social @bonni208.bsky.social & @mahabali.bsky.social If your "real life" has to do with teaching, learning, AI or training consider registering. Or if you're a student! Next week! Sign up soon!

I don't mind getting rejections from journals. I truly understand, not all my articles are great, not all fit their goals. But when journals reject your paper then "invite" you to do the unpaid labor of reviewing an article for them the week after? Now, that's just rude.

My department is running our annual Symposium in February and we will have multiple virtual sessions and a hybrid session which anyone can join. Speakers are @miazamoraphd.bsky.social on Feb 17, @bonni208.bsky.social on Feb 19 and @saraheaton.bsky.social on Feb 25. bit.ly/CLT25symposium

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a man in possession of a tongue and little AI knowledge will interrupt me (a woman who is an expert on AI) to mansplain AI to me and tell me why my critiques are outdated, irrelevant, or invalid.

Please believe us when we tell you this is a daily basis thing

Patriarchy is... when a man quotes me in an email thread (but without naming me), then another man tells the first man, great question, and the first man doesn't correct him that he was quoting me, and I am not longer part of that conversation.
