Compare the remake to the 1994, and compare "Mufasa" to the remake. That's the order. Mufasa INTENTIONALLY ignores all the animated movies to make it's own original story, which I do applaud the attempt even if it was a huge miss, so PLEASE remember this when criticizing the movie. End of thread.

I am always one to encourage the critique of art. Especially from such a large company as Disney. But if you are going to do that, you HAVE to be making the right critiques. This movie was NEVER a 1994 prequel. In this "universe", the 1994 film is not relevant; the remake is.

- heir apparent anyways, given he was born of Scar and Zira. Anyways, if you read this far... thanks for being as brainrotted about The Lion King as me lmfao

I also like that Mufasa introduced the idea of the birthing grounds, where Nala was the whole movie, because it helps explain where Zira was during the fight for Pride Rock... she was giving birth to Kovu. Therefore, no reason for him to have been "hand chosen by Scar" because he would've been-

On Kovu being chosen over Nuka... you cannot say it was a strength thing because Kovu was a literal newborn when Scar was overthrown and Nuka must have been several months old. No way to test strength. There is zero reason for Scar to have chosen Kovu over him... UNLESS they were directly related.

... which is something Simba says in the beginning of the movie: Kiara: "What if I don't want to be queen? It's no fun." Simba: "That's like saying you don't want to be a lion! It's in your blood." Like wouldn't it be so cool if they could PROPERLY challenge that notion with Kovu being Scar's son?

Unless, of course, Nuka and Vitani were born to different parents, and Kovu was Scar's firstborn. It really does make a lot of sense. And would make Kovu's concerns about "Scar living in [him]" 100% more justified and properly challenge the movie's concept of "you are born with your fate"...

Like assuming the reasoning was that he was the last born before Scar died... it doesn't add up. How the fuck did Scar know he was going to die, and also why choose this cub in particular, especially one not of his own blood?

However, the best part about this retcon of Scar being directly related to Mufasa is that it opens up Kovu being the son of Scar... which, honestly, would make The Lion King 2 even better, as that issue of Kovu just being "chosen" for no particular reason over Nuka always bothered me.
