If you're interested in the carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), see below. Sloan did a really nice job capturing the main issues for a non-technical audience. mitsloan.mit.edu/ideas-made-t...

‼️The US-based @ipcc.bsky.social technical support unit (TSU) for Working Group 3 Co-Chairs has been terminated, and the US won’t be attending next week’s IPCC meeting where the AR7 chapter outlines will be approved. More by @afreedma.bsky.social here:

Since the EU started talking about Carbon Border Adjustment in 2019, "44 other jurisdictions around the world have either implemented or are in the process of debating, at a formal level, carbon prices". CBAM is delivering as expected! mitsloan.mit.edu/ideas-made-t...

🚨 Publication alert 🚨: Simple spatial planning policies like exclusion zones are often used to mitigate adverse environmental impacts of wind power deployment. Yet, while effectively reducing targeted environmental impacts, such policies can increase other, untargeted environmental impacts. 1/2

I've been meaning to read this paper on mass extinctions (pubs.aeaweb.org/doi/pdfplus/...), and today, I came across this great write-up about it in VoxDev (voxdev.org/topic/energy...). It's a great paper. I am glad I found the time to read it. Below is a short thread.

Super interesting new report by the European Commission on energy subsidies in EU Member States: Energy subsidies increased substantially in 2022 and 2023 due to the energy crisis. Importantly, this also came with roughly a doubling of subsidies to fossil fuels. 🔌💡 1/4

#Scientific freedom is a thorn in #Trump's side, you can clearly notice that, as his first decrees target authorities and organizations in #research and health. 🗽👩‍🔬👨‍🔬 For all non-German-speaking readers and friends of @oekoprog.bsky.social , @cfkaiser.bsky.social has also written his text in English.

There is *a lot* going on right now. My hot take, as I try to keep up wrt our planet: “These executive orders will make our air dirtier, make people sicker, make energy more expensive, and make our communities less prepared for extreme weather.” apnews.com/article/trum...

For the German speakers among you, @makronom.bsky.social features a piece summarizing my recent book. If you're interested, this is the link: makronom.de/wie-die-norm...

The world has changed before and, when it did, it wasn’t because a president, a prime minister, a CEO or a celebrity decided it had to. It began when ordinary people – people of no particular power, wealth, or fame – decided that the world could and should be different.

We have published two new translations: Our mCDR assessment framework explained in simple words, now available in English(bit.ly/40C541O) and the German version of the associated research report (bit.ly/3WCrMWF). Happy Reading!

"Intergenerational Discounting and Inequality" (joint with @pgpiacquadio.bsky.social) is now out as a working paper! We study all theories of justice that disentangle intergenerational discounting and intergenerational inequality, and I am amazed by the results! www.cesifo.org/en/publicati...

**New working paper** How does the under-representation of females in Economics affect the career trajectory of female Ph.D. students? Sahar Parsa and I look at this in a new working paper by exploring sabbatical leaves taken by female professors at top-50 US Econ departments.

New work lead by Martin Hänsel with other colleagues from @pik-potsdam.bsky.social. Germany's gas price brake winter 2022/23 may be "a blueprint for climate policy, where policy makers often struggle with carbon pricing due to its distributional impacts." www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/...

Hi pals. Today I wrote about the unsettling mismatches between what climate models say should be happening and what is actually happening. We're pushing the Earth past the limits of our physical understanding. This is a gift link: www.theatlantic.com/science/arch...

1/ How do climate shocks reshape lives inside households? 🏠🌍 My #EconJMP explores how climate shocks can change the way household members share resources, deepening intrahousehold inequalities. This has important implications for climate resilience and policy design. #EconSky

Some discussions about carbon pricing and revenue recycling (rebate/premium) and what we can learn from Canada's case for Germany (and other countries). Also with @profkharrison.bsky.social @ddpace.bsky.social and happy to hear other voices too :) #EconSky #GreenSky #EnergySky
