ICE crossed a line in LA

I'll never forget that Linda Tirado lost an eye and is dying from TBI-induced dementia caused by a cop shooting her in the face by a rubber bullet at the George Floyd protests.

I'm a believer in nonviolent resistance for moral reasons, and I think it can be incredibly powerful when well-planned and sustained, but don't tell me violence doesn't work. The people successfully rolling back my rights were sending bomb threats to children's hospitals.

“It’s no fun to be on Bluesky” - skill issue “There’s not enough diversity of opinion on Bluesky” - then stop repeating yourself “The language police are everywhere on Bluesky” - do you always do what the police tell you to do?

Ahem.

You cannot go about your life thinking about ways to avoid making fascists angry. You will not succeed, and you will not be free.

Conspiracy theorists won’t take know for an answer.

Study abuse, understand oppression

Earlier today ICE agents hit someone with a car and tear gassed a neighborhood, sparking several fires and disrupting businesses. Immigrants, by contrast, did not.

to quote @katmabu.bsky.social: "I won't take money from the guy who does a Hitler salute. It's really that simple."

I should’ve believed Jain when he told me the words moderate, extreme, centrist, partisan, pressure groups, ideological purity, and valued principles have no relation to policy positions

Part of their delusion here is they're getting yelled at for not being leftist enough or that only leftists are mad at them. Meanwhile, all the polling evidence shows that's not true at all: they are despised across the spectrum and all their pretensions of appealing to the center *aren't working.*

It's common to hear that, if Dems are to win against the right, they need to shift their rhetoric regarding social policies towards the right. This is conventional wisdom for many. But I'll let you in on a little secret: There's actually quite a lot of data about whether this works, and it doesn't.

Been working on this for a while & happy to introduce: 'Beautiful Losers of History,' a narrative history podcast that examines people and movements that fought for a righteous cause but ultimately lost. But just because they lost doesn't mean they're not worth celebrating. rss.com/podcasts/bea...

In Central MA in the 1970s-1990s you learned to read maps real good and if you got lost you located the closest cadre of Mustache Dads (diner, barbershop, hardware store, etc. - wherever chatty Dads & Uncles gather) and let them debate the optimal route for you.

There's a pretty explicit test case of a center left party abandoning trans people and immigrants. Labour in the UK have done just that and their political support has imploded while legitimizing the fascist Reform party. Dem consultants seem content to follow this strategy.

this is even before you get to the part where white supremacist gangs have explicitly set out to infiltrate the agency and succeeded in doing so.

my takeaway from this feature is that in a functioning political system there would be televised congressional hearings over the fact that one of the most influential people in the white house is a total maniac www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
