My mum KNEW she had a cancer tumour, a whole YEAR she ignored it, Meaning the hole in her chest from it being so big even after chemo meant it took 4 months to close 🙄 she could have gone and it would likely have been a lumpectomy tbf the dr thought she would be a goner, she’s crazy lucky

Waking to this in a terrifying essay by US historian Heather Cox Richardson. But Matthew Parris in the Times says we should all stay calm and Trump is no Chamberlain so that’s all fine.

It took me years to admit to myself (and others) that I was disabled. My disabilities are invisible & I used a tremendous amount of energy keeping them hidden Ableism is powerful, and internalized ableism is a difficult thing to wrestle with If society were more inclusive, we wouldn’t be so scared

This is about as disturbing as it gets. When Trump says he plans to be a dictator, there’s no reason not to believe him.

Europe can’t rely on the strength of the transatlantic relationship to help contain Russia’s threat – it must lead from the front and be the true force of support that Ukraine needs. Not just for Ukraine’s sake, but for a free and sovereign Europe.

Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz reaches back to Tiananmen Square to call on American defiance.

The name of a gulf doesn’t change just because an American President says so. Regardless of who the President is at the time.

Anyone who has been in hospital, or has supported a disabled person when in hospital, will know that the staff there are usually brilliant... But they absolutely do not and cannot provide the level of (mostly personal) care that many need. We still need our carers/support...

It's a coup.

I haven’t met one Goddamn person who doesn’t think Elon Musk rendered an unquestionable Nazi salute. And, most of the people I have asked…have been REPUBLICANS.

Ask yourself, “With the speed and precision with which Musk is ripping through our government, do I really believe there was any way in hell he was going to leave the election to chance?”

As a disabled person, I am pretty sure the only things I’ve ever had “just handed to” me are inaccessibility, ableism, and more paperwork.

People always believe they will be the exception to disability and chronic illness There will be a cure when it’s their turn. They will try hard enough and get better They can’t accept that many things have no cure. It’s no one’s fault. Most people will face disability at some point in their lives

Reminder... A disabled person is almost always worse than they tell you about. We spend our lives trying to keep going even though our bodies are telling us to stop... Because if we stop we won't be able to start again. So whatever you think you know about us... You're wrong.

Living with disabilities is a masterclass in how to handle gaslighting You get it from everyone. Doctors, family, friends, bosses, colleagues A neverending litany of people telling you “it can’t be THAT bad” or “you should just do this” We are the experts in our bodies. Respect us. Listen to us.

I know pointing out hypocrisy doesn’t matter anymore, but if there’s one person I wouldn’t want to be the judge of who goes into locker rooms, it would be the man who openly boasted about walking into dressing rooms of underage girls

If you oppose DEI you should have to use the full phrase, “I oppose diversity, equity and inclusion.” Bonus points if you add your points, “I oppose disabled veterans equal access to employment.” “I oppose mothers having jobs.” Making it an acronym turns it into a thought-terminating cliche.

"Members of Congress take an oath to 'support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.' That the Constitution’s domestic enemies now include the president does not relieve members of Congress of their responsibility to that oath." www.thebulwark.com/p/more-dange...

A disabled person can burn out without being in paid employment. Just managing our health conditions can (often does) become totally overwhelming, takes nearly all our time, and burns us out. Issue is we can’t have time off to recover.

Laugh, if you wish, but I don’t think Musk is thinking in terms of “conquering the United States.” He’s thinking of conquering the world. Madness has no limitations.

Absolute bliss

When there’s crime he blames Mexicans When there’s a pandemic he blames the Chinese When there’s police brutality he blames unarmed Black men When there’s a plane crash he blames women of color

THIS, that poor soul has to live with the result of decisions wholey outwith their control đź’”

only appropriate political response here is to demand the white house explain how its actions aren’t responsible www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-...

We might have had Boris Johnson as PM and he was an utter fucking clown. But he is statesmanlike when compared to the total fuckwittery of the thick moron across the pond. The disrespect that this orange baboon brings to the devastated relatives and friends of the crash victims is disgusting.
