🚨 Practical URGENT tip for NSF grantees: Out of an abundance of caution, I would right now go into Research.gov and… 1. Download your NSF award letters. 2. Print PDF your annual reports. 3. Screenshot the status table for annual reports. NSF is planning maintenance tomorrow to Research.gov

Make salmonella great again!

Walz: "This is how government is supposed to work. It's not supposed to be one old man in the Oval Office sending out middle of the night tweets that shock markets into free fall. It's not supposed to be a bunch of 20 somethings unelected and firing everyone. It's not supposed to be chaos."

This so directly out of the Nazi playbook. The very obvious plan is to get rid of the independent accreditors and put all universities under jurisdiction of the federal government. This is how Hitler took over German academia and made it a wing of his party.

Sickening. Cruel. The Whitney is the vanguard Black heritage site.

A quick reminder that there was a massive "pure milk" campaign in the early 20thC., largely organized by women, because children were dying from adulterated milk or TB-infected milk in significant numbers.

Generations of poor kids were sold the idea that taking out a student loan was an investment on their future and one they couldn’t afford to pass. Now after multiple once-in-a-lifetime economic downturns and endless avocado toast pieces those same poor kids are being targeted for immiseration.

who told all these white Americans that history should make them feel good all the time

The AHA has released a statement condemning the current administration’s immigration policies and practices, which “threaten the vitality of historical work through the targeting of international scholars for increased scrutiny and legal action.” 🗃️

Want to know why due process is such a big deal? Tonight, Heather and I discussed its history & significance. Give a listen. m.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Quick reminder that it’s legal to forcibly sterilize disabled people in a shocking number of states, including Massachusetts.

If it's possible for you and a few others in your communities to band together now and to start planning back to school free stores, children's clothing swaps, school supply giveaways etc... definitely do it. There's going to be a lot of need.

Mahmoud Khalil’s wife, Dr. Noor Abdalla, gave birth to their first child today, a baby boy. In a statement, she said, “My son and I should not be navigating his first days on earth without Mahmoud. ICE and the Trump administration have stolen these precious moments from our family…”

Now is the time to be even louder for Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Write Congress and tell them to bring our SMART Union brother home NOW!

DOGE ✂️ library/museum federal funding, 💸 to help the poorest of us. They did this because the access to literature, improving literacy, science/history & free education to all of the masses, is access to independent thoughts & insight. We 👀 You! www.npr.org/2025/03/31/n...

Chair Comer denied our request for an official trip to El Salvador to advocate for due process and the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Pretty shameful. Good thing I don’t need Comer’s permission to get on a plane.

"The German Coast Uprising of 1811, when a wave of enslaved rebels marched from sugar plantations east of the Mississippi River to New Orleans, burning plantation houses along the way." I had no earthly idea.

"This checklist has been compiled by grad workers for grad workers to provide support for non-citizens who are being targeted by the Trump Administration. This document draws on resources built by organizations that have been defending their communities and our rights—these are listed at the end."

Greenville, SC showed up!!

Many data sets held by NOAA are being "retired" in may, including datasets relevant to ocean sciences and climate. If you have need for these data, or are an archivist, it would be good to download this now. PLEASE SHARE WIDELY. www.nesdis.noaa.gov/about/docume...

This isn’t a war on “children”—a term that, in dominant racial narratives, typically defaults to white children. It’s the calculated marginalization of those deemed “undesirable.” This is eugenics by design.

Conservative judge blasts Trump administration’s ‘shocking’ conduct in Abrego Garcia case Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson’s ruling is the latest judicial rebuke of the administration’s failure to follow court orders. www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

Conservative Judge Wilkinson’s STRONG opinion telling President Trump and his acolytes that they are breaking the law in failing to comply with Judge Boasberg‘s ruling and denying their effort to prolong Kilmar Garcia’s incarceration in El Salvador. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

1/5 Watched @hcrichardson.bsky.social & Sen. Angus King today. Sen. King spoke of writing your Reps. & Sen. How important it is, it does make a difference. Then saw this. A lot of screen shots but a good idea. Stick to issues effecting you or those you know. Be Specific.

DHS said in a Michigan court that the agency can’t terminate students’ immigration statuses by terminating records in Sevis. This will be news to hundreds of students told by their schools or the govt that they’ve lost their status & must leave @theintercept.com theintercept.com/2025/04/17/i...

These are the birthright citizenship cases, which present honestly the single best argument for nationwide injunctions I can think of; that it would be absolutely insane to have a system where a person’s US citizenship could change when traveling from one state to another.

NEW: The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on Trump's effort to end birthright citizenship. The justices will hear the case on May 15 at 10 a.m. EDT.

The fact that this wasn’t rejected wholesale, should scare the hell out of everyone. The Supreme Court and the Republicans are gearing up to rewrite the literal essence of America to suit their fascist whims.

This is a WILD list of data to disappear. I was braced for climate stuff, but not, like, shoreline maps and coastal bathymetry

Love seeing this kind of coordinated action!

A prelude of what's to come when you cut public health funding:

The #DayofActionforHigherEd on April 17, being led by @actioninhighered.bsky.social, culminates with an online teach-in at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT with a great line-up, including the AAUP's @proftwolf.bsky.social. RSVP: bit.ly/3Gpep6A

This is enforced disappearance. We don’t know the fate or whereabouts of someone who is forcibly disappeared. That’s one thing that makes it different from human trafficking. (Thread)

Trump administration showed "willful disregard" to the court when it sent alleged gang members to El Salvador in defiance of the judge's order that the planes turn around.

None of this happening in or bc of US is ok. None of it is legal/constitutional under prevailing norms or interpretations.

Thomas Sandby's plan of the Battle of Culloden, fought on 16 April 1746. The plan was completed on 23 April at Inverness. It shows the opposing armies drawn up in line of battle with the flanking movement of the government dragoons on the Jacobite right flank. Š Royal Collection Trust.

As we predicted: Joe Kent is planning to use the law enforcement apparatus to imprison Black activists and antifascists as “terrorists,” essentially unleashing the far-right terrorists of the Proud Boys by looking the other way as they get the green light. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
