It’s been a lot of work cleaning up from the wind damage that caused the fire. After a 2 week evacuation we came home to a mess. The last month the chickens have been sequestered to the coop and barn as we rebuild the yards aerial protection and other improvements. Today they get to go FREE!!!

As a show of appreciation to our handyman/gardener I give him a dozen eggs a week, occasionally breakfast or lunch and today oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for his kids. #eggs #fresheggs

I drove to Malibu for the first time since the fire, it has the closest grocery store to our house so I do/did go there routinely. It’s devastating! I m often struck by how close it came, a couple hundred yards in 3 directions, we were so lucky! Survivors guilt 😢

Our farm is growing #chicks #Hatching Honestly thought my hens were sitting on duds but we have 2 more pipping now and who knows how many of the 33 will hatch. I normally don’t let my chickens get too broody but during our evacuation my baby chick became a rooster and well nature stuff happened….

Interesting fact! It’s cheaper for me to give friends baby chicks so they can get their own eggs than it is to give them free eggs indefinitely, my eggs should be selling at the market. #babychicks New flock starts today!

Some of my hens are done molting, they are older so they have bigger eggs. My summer Easter eggers chicks are just starting to lay, the small green/blue ones. I love seeing the new colors with more to come. I’m donating these to our local firehouse. #rainboweggs #farmfresh #hens

We have finally returned home with all of our animals. Amazing our little farm and our little street was spared. Power still out but I have solar, city water not potable but we have a water tank. Air quality is normal, no ash or smoke even though fire was within 200ft in 3 directions.

Shit show trying to get home! I’m still evacuated, no damage to my street or property. Roads are clear and working order. Some neighbors allowed in, some of us turned away. My livestock in shelters, dogs are depressed living in a motel as are we. 2 weeks! I need to go home!!!

It’s been 12 days since we evacuated but we are lucky enough to have a home to return to. They are still red tagging homes around the corner and replacing power poles so we might not be back until Tuesday. I miss having all my animals, my goats are still in a shelter 😢

Anxious to return home. The fire came very close, really close, everything behind us is gone or damaged but my tiny house (400sqft) is there. Our RV is there so I can shower and cook. our solar is working,we didn’t lose power, a big deal since no food loss.

A lol moment when we were uncertain of our home. I forgot my dad’s urn, without question we were rebuilding but would we qualify for certain tax exemptions if it’s now a cemetery? Laughter through the tears.
