I agree with the premise. Is there going to be a public announcement attached? I donβt see a mention of one. Or are we supposed to share it across social media platforms?
You really want to hurt them. Stop buying all together. Only buy necessities, and if you need something, barter with a neighbor. Capitalism only works when they get the money.
For so many reasonβs including - are people in the mood for it? And the constant βtrump might show upβ. That alone is a good reason to not watch.
Shoot, even a year's too short unless we win. Trump out, or we don't let up. Even if it doesn't seem politically possible, a huge economic downturn can really change political calculus.
Iβm in. Itβs on my calendar.
How about making every 1st Tuesday of every month Black Out Tuesday? Thatβll certainly make some heads spin. And weβll be saving money!
It needs to be a lot longer than one day. If we really want to make a difference, a national strike would be better. Solidarity with the federal workers who keep the lights on.
All of these companies make money from your data and advertising. Deal a significant blow to their advertising profits by using alternatives or opting out.
Ahh, thanks for the info. I was mostly looking for alternatives to companies that had literally sent members to the inauguration since that is my largest concern, but good to have other options to investigate.
Using the "DUCK" in Europe, seems to work really well with full blockers on . I've not heard that they harvest data before. Be kind enough to give Us a source if You would please .
Cheers !
Thank you for this. I honestly hadn't thought it about it from that angle, but you're absolutely right.
I would, however, encourage *definitely* clicking on any allied media organizations on that day. In fact, if you don't normally do so, go to @meidastouch.com that day and check them out.
The effect of a huge bump for allied media at the same time that all other web traffic went down would be very noticeable. And I'm only singling @meidastouch.com out because I know their Bluesky handle off-hand - there are quite a few great options at the moment.
Calling Trump hotel 877.458.7867, Feb 7th and overwhelming the servers will get the attention we need. Scripting βI would like to book a room for July 4th. My credit card number is βI hate D.O.G.E. fire Musk.β https://www.magfone.com/change-location/free-call-spoofing-service.html
It would be more effective and less recessionary to boycott certain companies like Target for pulling back their DEI policies, Amazon to punish Bezos for supporting trump. Think about who u are trying to hurt. Employees? Your local tax base? If u can, spend ur money with businesses u want to reward
I donβt think this is a good idea. If the economy slows, what do companies do? They lay off ppl, which leads to unemployment, which leads to ppl not spending, = more layoffs. Itβs a vicious cycle. Then you have a recession which is bad for regular ppl. Good for hedge funds.
I dunno⦠I think our eternal-growth, rampant consumerist culture is reaching the end of the road⦠this brand of capitalism is not sustainable. World is burning. I think this would be a meaningful, tangible gesture that reminds the oligarchs of our collective power, and challenges the status quo.
I agree, the infinite growth that capitalism requires doesnβt seem plausible, but I think the billionaire class is much more able to weather an economic downturn better than the rest of us.
Yeah I donβt think itβs so much about the financial impact of a single day eventβ itβs more a show of strength and a reminder of our power. We can always up the pressure. But an initial small action can be galvanizing, and it can say a lot.
People need to have a back up plan installed for their future. It's not too late to start anytime. We have a side hustle online business that does not involve selling. This is our Plan D because we want to replace our Plan C. It's an attraction marketing marketing/connecting everyday people.
Our online business is run in automation even when we're sleeping. Warren Buffett said that if we don't make money while we r asleep, we're going to work till we die. We use our cell phone/laptop 2 connect attract like minded people. If we spend time scrolling, we might as well make money out of 8.
Agreed. I donβt understand the push to do random shit. Do un-random shit. No senator congressman or AG phone should ever stop wringing. Emails should be overflowing. Offices full. Not buying milk or shoes or diapers on a certain day does nothing to the system or the oligarchs. Protest at SB? YES!!
My family grocery budget has been ballooning for the last two years. My wife and I drive a 10 year old vehicles because prices everywhere have skyrocketed. We have to budget taking the kids to McDs more than twice a month.
We canβt afford to buy anything. Debt slavery is bullshit.
I agree with this but also having some thoughts about it . My concerns are that some friends , their college children and people from my city work in these places . I would not want to see them lose their jobs !
After I received my last purchase from Target, I let them know I would not be buying from them again after they did away with DEI. Iβm only 1 person, but I stick with my ethics. π€·π»ββοΈ
They rebranded but due to βexternal landscapeβ. In my opinion, Trumps threats. And now Costco is being sued by 19 Republican Attorney Generals. Target has been a trailblazer of DEI and has endured alot of boycotts because of it.
ββ¦Target said Friday that it would join rival Walmart and a number of other prominent American brands in scaling back diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives that have come under attack from conservative activists and, as of this week, the White House.β
We've started putting our receipts on our refrigerator and carefully monitoring our spending. So far in February, we topped off our tanks and spent $10 cash for 10 cans of beans π€£ I hope to keep this going.
Honestly, we live in a time when you can do an internet search (not Google) for recipes ...
I do have some. I used to do red beans in my Instant Pot and then my Instant Pot died. I recently did them in my slow cooker (Ninja Possible Pro, I think) and I didn't even have to soak them, but it took a few hours. The canned ones are just more convenient for adding to soups.
Not sure what preservatives are in the canned food these days in the US but I can taste it. Spent the majority of the last 20 years overseas. In the US all the food tastes like garbage. Canned food leaves a weird feeling on my teeth here and has an aftertaste that just isnβt there in Asia/Europe.
Dude is batshit crazy, but you do have to wonder why all of our food has all this extra junk in it. Why is βCorn Syrupβ in everything here. Why do our food labels read like chemistry experiments instead of βflour, sugar, egg, etc.β. How are companies saving money or profits by adding all of this.
I have app Paprika 3. It has browser to find a recipe with your specific items. Beef and rice for example. Will return more recipes than youβll ever need. Saves me trips to store. Using everything I have first.
I have been using Copy Me That which may be similar. I will check that one out. I am trying to meal plan and use what I have first also. I finished a bag of potatoes yesterday, a salad today, and I think I have 3 carrots left π
I found a recipe for buffalo chicken chili that uses ground chicken, so I am thinking about going to get some at Aldi tomorrow. (As a bonus it is pretty cheap). I just need to decide which produce to go with this time.
Ok... I read this as 'in our refrigerator', and I was very confused as to how that would help π I think I need a break from scrolling for a couple of days π
Do NOT over shop in the days leading up to 2/28 or it will actually benefit our corporate overlords. We all need to reevaluate our lives and scale back. Save money. Stop buying useless stuff that will end up in landfills. Support the small businesses in your local communities.
I recently re-learned how to mend garments, Iβm signed up for first aid, and Iβve been slowly learning how to repair things myself by watching YouTube videos. My intent is to get as creative as possible to avoid spending money.
I think there are many, many ways to resist, and Iβm exploring my options. Itβs very possible that weβll need to help each other more than ever, and I want to be helpful to my neighbors.
I would like to put in a word for shopping on Etsy, if you need a gift for someone or just need something for yourself. Etsy products are handmade by real people and of better quality than mass produced crap. Full disclosure, I have an Etsy Shop but I think many others on Bluesky do, as well.
stop buying meat dairy and eggs FOREVER. you're funding the ultra-right when you pay gross repub men to kill innocent baby animals for corporate profit.
Been doing this everyday. No PayPal, Google or Venmo either. Taking out the credit card, filling in all the blanks. Sucks at first but is making me a lot more mindful of spending and automatic donations.
I'm not positive, but I believe MSuk sold His stakes in Pay-Pal quite some time back .( I boycotted and closed it when He froze Julian Assange's WikiLeaks accounts ! PRICK!) But if anyone knows otherwise ,let Us know .Cheers !
Thank you, yes I did see that, but I am so soured on these companies now that I am only keeping what I need. If I have to get a landline and an answering machine again I would.
My boyfriend is a small business owner. Definitely not MAGA. We sell at our local farmers market and craft shows. More than half of the small businesses at our local farmers market are very much on the left.
If we start strategically hitting the large corporations we will have an impact.
This is just the beginning.
Find corporate allies and support them.
If you know the small companies are MAGA don't shop there.
We start big and organize down from there.
π
My husband is from WV . Everywhere where you look at is a Trump flag , sticker , hat, or jacket . Almost every member of his extended family is MAGA . It's difficult to avoid them there
I live in a red county and our company supports other small businesses. Unfortunately, you're right about this one. Most here are both MAGA and horrible employers.
Some of us will let you know. I put out stickers for people to take when we sell at the markets. I also wear these pins. I'm hoping it stops MAGA from buying our products. They don't deserve a great smelling house. Lol. It's a sacrifice because our only income is from selling at markets and online.
You donβt. But they are paying local taxes, paying local employees, and youβre still strengthening your local community whether theyβre maga or not. But sometimes they canβt wait to show it, and then you know.
You could do that. I prefer to avoid confrontation but I do look for indications like bumper stickers on their cars. My guess is that if you told them, they would tell you to get out of their establishment.
I guess we are all different.
I do confront -if they would say get out - I would reply "Are you kidding me?? You couldn't pay me to shop in your store π"
If you cut down to only essentials, even if you're forced to buy from a non-ally, you've already done a lot.
The average family has 25% of their spending on non-essentials. 68% of the US GDP was consumer spending last year. 32%'ish of eligible voters voted for Harris.
Personally, I don't think this achieves anything. People will just purchase the day before or the day after. If you need a tank of gas or quart of milk, you buy it. If you know that you won't be buying on the 28th, you will buy on the 27th. Not purchasing things on one day will not reduce overall
spending. But as for being "forced" to buy from a non-ally - if you MUST buy that specific item that specific day, buy it somewhere else. But if you are under contract for a repair and the contractor is MAGA you would be paying at another time anway.
This is exactly what I'm saying. None discretionary spending (impulse shopping) needs to stop. You make them lose their money and assess. We are all going to suffer anyway, why not let them share in the midst and keep more of your money. If they get rid of the FDIC, pull your money out of the banks
(Non-discretionary). Also, if they get rid of the FDIC your money is no longer safe in the bank. It will absolutely be time to run the banks. If they refuse to change after all this, then we all stop paying taxes to them. Good luck collecting from tens of millions, especially after they cut the IRS
That works out to over 5% of he *entire* US GDP if the average Harris voter just cut out all non-essential spending. No eating out. No movies. Cancel streaming services. Shut it all down.
To put that 5% into perspective, 2020's COVID effect caused the largest contraction since the WWII demobilization, and was 3.5%. The shock of Harris voters alone cutting down to non-essentials would rock the entire world.
What people don't buy on the 28th they'll buy on the 27th or March 1st. Zero effect in the end, save one--another brain-dead clown stunt that the Right can (correctly) laugh at.
great should not there be a list of companies that support trump, trump is a nazi , we hate nazis, just keep repeating it. the crowd will catch on blame trump for everything we need that to put you on line post every where. the forumla is simple
This needs to be way wider & deeper. Behave the way you would in a βbanana republic,β bc this is what it is. Use less electricity & gas. Stop shopping, going to the movies, traveling (especially to red states). Donβt celebrate anything, hunker down.
Why wait? Start today! Start breaking them today! One day boycotts do nothing but allow them to tidy their shelves. A one-day boycott is little more than a snow day for the staff.
Also isn't "WallyWorld" the fictional holiday-quest/amusement park that the Griswold's hijacked in the legendary 1983 comedy, "Nat'l Lampoon's Vacation"?π
My family started this a few weeks ago. We are calling it "No Buy '25". We are buying NOTHING that is not 100% required for us to function, like food, utilities etc.Can you imagine the power Americans would have if we all did this and ground the economy to a screeching stop? Trump would shit himself
I'm just not gonna buy anything. Many of the small businesses where I live are run by wealthy people. Their prices are extremely high and they treat their employees like garbage because they can get away with it. Just because it is small doesn't mean it is good.
We voted and continue to vote with our wallets. My friends and family gave me a hard time for being eco conscious and putting small business first. Probably projection of their guilt. Hoping they understand now.
I know this is a big ask, but if you can change your lifestyles and support small businesses that have zero waste products you could save democracy and the environment. Iβve been boycotting Amazon for almost a decade. Itβs not hard. Iβve also been supporting zero waste businesses.
It wonβt work unless everybody gets together to do this we can do that Germany can come up with 200,000 to come against musk and theyβre Nazis. We can do this in America together!
Uhmm, from the moment the world stops buying from those billionaires, but simply from their possible local entrepreneurs, only then will the world start to improve.
We must take on the oligarchs who feed the dark machine.
Stop buying from Amazon
Cancel your Twitter-X profile
Don't buy a Tesla
Stop using all the Meta platforms (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.)
Don't follow journalists/media who bent the knee
Cancel WaPo
Etc.
Edit the channels on your TV to remove Fox, CNN, Prime, Disney etc
Stop using Google & Gmail etc & Microsoft products.
Stop buying Chinese stuff.
Spend time researching the companies you are buying fm.
Billionaires love you buying their shit! Stop feeding these trolls.
Just do it everyday. These things are too scattershot and to be effective they need a clear, realizable demand or they will be dismissed as just noise. Maybe localized organizations with a single theme but local, clear, single concrete demand.
Start prioritizing. Know the difference between βI needβ & βI wantβ. Iβd really like that new pair of jeans, but I have 12 pair, so itβs an I want, not an I need. I need foodβ¦non negotiable. Shop local. Think like this: if I was living in Ukraine, how would my spending be limited?
Why just one day? Take a look at your consumption. Other than food, I bet most could save 50% of their disposable income if they just said NO, I do not need this purchase.
Also, every day, look at the businesses you step into, if they are MAGA, politely tell them they just lost your business and walk out. If they are part of a franchise, let the corporation that provides the franchise structure know. π₯π
Bruh I ain't paying for a name brand if the product dose the job well or the service is still consistent for the price i.e value. I think that .matters more then where it comes from
Except tools U.S is still top notch.
One day boycotts are dumb af. Corporations don't measure on one day but by quarters.
Stop buying dumb shit. Only buy what you need not want. Buy used as much as possible. Car pool. Cook more. Stop buying processed shit. Turn the heat down & AC up.
YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES FOR GOING AGAINST THE AMERICAN PEOPLE (WHO YOU WORK FOR NOT THE DICTATOR) AND LETTING TRUMP AND HIS CABINET GUT OUR COUNTRY AND DEMOCRACY DESTROYING OUR LIVELIHOOD AND HOW THE WORLD LOOKS AT US!
Canada π¨π¦ (your friendly neighbour) is already doing this full on! Last year we spent like $320 billion on American πΊπΈ products! Not anymore π€πβοΈ
On this day, Canadians should do the opposite, buy as much Canadian product as you can afford. Save getting gas at Petro Canada, grocery shop for the week buying Canadian. Go out for dinner at a local restaurant etc π¨π¦
I did a test post to see where we sit. Are we ready to stop squabbling, finger-pointing, band together, and fight? The answer is no, not even remotely. We have not struggled enough individually to join and struggle together. We're still in the, vote for my party because they're not as bad, area.
Iβm already doing it! I started preparing the day after the election, and Iβm only buying necessities from local stores. Iβm not spending any unnecessary money for the duration of this βadministration.β
Yeah I gathered up a lot of things that should last me 4yrs & wouldn't expire. I rarely buy clothing so that's easy to cut back on. Mainly just food for me now, and we have an Aldi nearby thankfully since Costco's too far away.
Same here. Not buying clothing, shoes, etc. I have plenty of everything to get by. I ask myself βDo I really *need* this?β And my answer is a resounding βNope!β
Cutting Amazon saves tons of money for me. No more impulse shopping. Cancelling subscriptions is another way Iβm saving. I already garden, can,and preserve food, and am expanding my veggie garden. Iβm not wealthy, and Iβm disabled. This is my resistance at home.
Thanks for the encouragement! Being stuck at home most of the time forces me to get creative. Iβm making calls and sending emails to my representatives too. Feeling helpless and anxious wasnβt working for me. We all need to think of ways to get through this nightmare.πͺπ
DON'T WAIT: AVOID BUYING NEW THINGS WHENEVER POSSIBLE.
* Can you fix it instead?
* Can you find it at a thrift store?
* Is there a DIY option that cuts out Walmart, Ebay or Amazon?
Quarterly earnings will drop and we'll quickly see that billionaires have bosses too: shareholders.
Not buying a damn thing other than food and paying bills. Stocked up on everything in 2024 even small appliances. Food will be a challenge for all of us given evil republicons & tiny hands voiding regulations for chemicals and environment.
I started mine already. The day the new regime took over, I stopped all purchases unless absolutely necessity. Looking at small local businesses first.
I went out and bought non-perishables so I donβt need to get any of those til Trump is gone. Also filled my freezer. Now I just buy spinach and organic milk. Itβs killing me not to get fresh fruit - Iβm buying frozen only. Itβs a lot cheaper and lasts a lot longer.
All of these companies make money from your data and advertising. Deal a significant blow to their advertising profits by using alternatives or opting out.
One issue is that some of us (myself included) are already doing this - I stopped shopping at Target, Amazon, & Whole Foods - I was never a regular Walmart shopper.
One day boycotts have zero effect. All those big retailers will look at their month-to-month and same-month-last-year numbers and see no evidence of a one day boycott. If you want a boycott to have an effect, youβve got to stop buying altogether.
And this is why this stuff doesn't work. instead of working together for a larger impact, this stuff is being put together independently. So some folks will do one day, maybe some will do both but neither will have the impact they claim they will
No reason I can't do two days lol. I actually was thinking a few days ago, I should try to start a boycott, then I remembered I am not famous and no one would know about it. So I'm glad that the idea--particularly the Feb 28th blackout--is all over social media. Great minds think alike.
Cancelled Amazon on inauguration day. Been boycotting every trump supporting business and product since then. It wonβt be one day for me it is forever. Fuck the fucking rich oligarchs nothing but disdain from me. My money never forever more!!!
This is the one I knew about. We need to coordinate our messages somehow so that we can stand together.
Between this sort of protest (I'm all for it), Elon throwing civil servants out of work and possibly others off of safety net programs, the looming government shut down, and threatened trade warsπ±
If itβs a hardship that you need to go. We need to shutdown what we can. If work isnβt an option, stock up on groceries and necessities and create an economic shutdown. Donβt buy anything that day and for as long as possible. Stop buying from Amazon. Shop at local mom and pops whenever you can.
Donβt spend time in social
Media that day. Show Zuckerberg and Musk we can live without them, but they canβt live without us! Do what you can for as long as you can. We are in this together.
Might have a chance for a worldwide hunger strike the way things are going! Some countries are already involuntarily participating bc of Leon Musk USAID direct assault.
Unfortunately small businesses usually charge so much more which is why the Walmart, Target, Amazon exists.. I'm a low income senior citizen and I just cannot afford to pay $5 for something I can find for $2 elsewhere.
Totally understandable. Do whatever works for you and take care of yourself. Nobody should ever be shamed for their life situation. Love and hugs to youπππ
They charge more because thatβs the true cost of the item. Big box stores pay their employees so little that they need to go on government assistanceβ¦just so that $5 item can be sold for $2. What happens when the employees can no longer get food stamps or SS benefits?
If you have the Goods Unite Us app, you can look up those companies and see how they donated. Even if your situation necessitates that you use these companies, you may find that you're more comfortable with one over the others.
That's the spirit. We need to protest every fucking day of the week until the other side can hear us apparently right now. They can't hear a goddamn thing we're saying so we gotta be a little louder. We're looking for cheerleaders. Please apply within.
You guys picked a day all the bills were due? Sorry, I can't cripple myself financially to stick it to the billionaires that don't care. I am trying to not spend any unnecessary money in general. But we all need to fill our own cups so we can continue the fight.
Bills are not the same. This is don't put gas in your car or stop for fast food, it's different. I am doing a "no-buy" period rn and I still pay bills and get my meds and stuff. I will join this day-long boycott by not getting gas or groceries on the day.
I DO THAT EVERY DAY NOW but I'll make sure we stay home that day and support small businesses whose values are aligned with justice, human rights and civil liberties.
Seriously, let main Street look like a ghost town, let call center agents wonder if the phones are down, let Amazon drivers go to the bathroom in a restroom.

I do this everyday now. Only thing I'll buy are necessities and stock up on TP. I learned my lesson during the pandemic. I'm ready to pull money out of the bank, too.
I bought bidets for all our bathrooms along with extras in case one breaks.
I stood in line for toilet paper the last time agent orange was in office, not doing that again.
Hah, yeah, the TP! Too late to make this move for those that didn't, but I went and bought like $100 worth of toilet paper the week after the election, as I prepared to cut out all non-essential spending.
This is probably the only thing short of a civil war that has a chance of having any effect on the criminals running our country now. The only power we, as a nation, have left is our buying power. All they understand is profit/loss.
Letβs try getting people to give up X and Facebook for one stinking day! It seems that getting everyone to delete it -is just a bridge to farβ¦.. π€¬
