People who state that there was never any warning with social media becoming an instrument for spreading misinformation: do you recall playing the whisper game (also referred to as “telephone”) in grade school? It was a literal allegory of accepting information and passing it along without question.

SMS scams will eventually force businesses and governments to remove any form of customer or civil notifications via text. All messaging will have to be app based. You might as well start now and block all text messages from anyone outside of your contact list.

The best way to avoid being scammed through social media, email, text msg or phone calls, is to be suspicious. Listen to that little voice in your head that says “this doesn’t sound right”. Anything that appears urgent or threatens you with inaction is ALWAYS a scam. Scammers only succeed with fear.

Several years ago, a little company named Nabisco ceased production of my favorite Cheese Nips brand of crackers. Thanks to the good people over on Reddit, I recently ordered a similar tasting Canadian brand of cheese crackers. For certainty, I’ve just eaten an entire box. Today is the best day.

My first day on BlueSky was filled with random posts about some game called #StardewValley. I don’t spend a lot of time gaming but figured I’ll check it out. Several weeks later and I’m finally getting around to installing quality sprinklers, got married, and unlocked the quarry. Love this game.
