Looks like such a beautiful night in the city tbh

I’m sorry but melting down because you see a Mexican flag in LA is so funny

Summer 2025 edition

for context here’s a map of greater Los Angeles and the protest is the roughly the red circle

These have been the most joyful demonstrations I’ve seen maybe ever.

in so many videos out of LA i am seeing officers aiming rubber bullets right into crowds, this is filling me with a deep and anxious rage knowing what happens when they do that www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/ne...

This is feeling disturbingly like the discourse around the college protests last spring: media and elected officials painted a picture of chaos and violence (supposedly committed by protestors) that was practically unrecognizable to anyone on the ground.

So ICE caused a traffic jam, started their raid right in front of the traffic jam, and then attacked the people stuck in traffic who were angry about the whole thing and recording it on their phones. People sometimes have a hard time understanding that police start the violence, but come on

Audio recording of LA riots to be released as meditation soundtrack.

“firing back”? on behalf of the shopping cart?

I have the book, and it's good. You should get you a copy. This mini contest is a good way to do that. Going to the Louisville book fair next week is another good way. And they're always ordering one.

Stuck in traffic because ICE stopped them in order to conduct a raid on businesses. Teargassed by ICE WHILE IN THEIR CARS. Had to get out of their cars, and that's when they started recording. And that's when ICE started targeting THEM.

there was a reason why folks demanded to abolish ICE and to defund the police.

For #WorldOceanDay I thought I would share a print with both a vertebrate and invertebrate ocean species. 🧪🐡 This linocut and gel plate print shows the humpback whale swimming above and a close up of the whale below with six Coronula diadema barnacles. The Coronula diadema name comes from its 🧵

It's true that X has more "news" about events in LA but it's also true that a lot of it is just slop. Seeing mostly videos ripped from elsewhere and paired with false captions, right wing propagandists circulating misinfo widely. Tell your friends to get the fuck out of there. Be insistent.

There's actually an extremely large scholarly literature about this. With some regularity, dictators order their troops to shoot protestors, the troops are like "wtf no," and then the dictator falls. I'll dig ho and dump some cites below in a second

We @lawfaremedia.org will hopefully publish something on this soon but fwiw the legal authority invoked is NOT the Insurrection Act — it’s 10 USC 12406, which is much more limited than an Insurrection Act invocation. (Reporters: Chris Mirasola is the expert to talk to about this)

Trump wanted to feel powerful so 2k National Guard members have been federalized in order to hand ICE water bottles

That kid is incredibly badass … but I have to say, they’re literally firing on a civilian youth who was walking away.

Yep, that's ammo

watching the abc livestream and they're focused in on a border patrol helicopter that landed and is bringing more ammo [flashbangs, less-than-lethals] into the dhs building, and there was a terrifying moment where abc's helicopter cam operator went "is that water? bullets?"

They were showing ICE or somebody unloading weapons and explosives from a helicopter for like ten minutes

This is the second day in a row that federal agents shot us both

Both reporters have checked in, but are currently covered in CS gas. Currently reviewing footage, @acatwithnews.bsky.social thinks it may have been a tear gas canister that he took to the forehead

The most striking thing about the LA protests is how many people just dropped everything to show up and yell at federal agents. There are people in suits, and carrying dogs, and wearing flip flops or bike helmets. These are not people who planned to do this today. But there they are.

Legend

ANTI-ICE protesters attempt to stop vehicles belonging to ICE from leaving. Checking if any detainees are inside. Quickly the NYPD rush the crowd and escort the feds to quickly speed away. Two people were arrested.

Trying and failing to come up with the right words to describe what we are witnessing unfold in LA right now. Your resistance is here, support them
