I love this resource and recommend it all the time!!

If you’re in the disability justice world, you should be following the new @blackdisabilityins.bsky.social account. So many good things ahead and you’re gonna wanna be in the loop!

DID YOU KNOW ? 1 in 5 students in the US has a disability. R&D in assistive tech created tools that empower students with disabilities to participate fully in education. Examples include screen readers, speech-to-text software, and adaptive keyboards. Source: Ed.gov Office of Civil Rights (2020-21).

“The freeze has continued even after top NIH officials acknowledged that continuing to block the funding would violate a federal court order.”

From the UW-Madison student newspaper, about the cancellation of a Teacher Quality Partnership grant (to one of my colleagues) that supported training of special education teachers for the Milwaukee Public Schools. badgerherald.com/news/campus/...

👩‍⚕️CDC and Disability Rights 🦼 Before we talk more about disability, we need to address the history of eugenics, ableism and racism that haunts US public health work.

Congratulations to Dr. Jenny Kurth! Dr. Kurth has recently won the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Special and Inclusive Education Research (SIER) Special Interest Group Distinguished Researcher Award for 2025. She was nominated by her colleague, @alisonzagona.bsky.social

My research group is well funded, and I'm terrified. All scientific labs run on slim margins, typically 12-24 months from running out of $. NIH is not reviewing proposals right now- the wave of labs shutting down is looming closer. All scientists are anticipating a major precipice. Options? 1/5

Kudos to the school administrator who wrote this letter for making it clear to families what happened and who they should blame. This is the way to build a coalition--with a shared adversary and a reason to fight.

Over the weekend, the Department of Education threatened to pull federal funding from public schools that don’t dump DEI by the end of the month Though the letter lacks the force of law, advocates are warning about this latest attempt to squash diversity efforts

My favorite from today’s 50501 March in Boston.

The WWC is not just a website; it was a promise: a promise that we could do better for our kids by understanding what actually works. Its absence will leave a void that will be deeply felt.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has been especially hard on individuals with disabilities. New research from [KU] shows that this population is also experiencing long COVID at significantly higher rates than the general population..."

If people are archiving data and resources, can y’all post osf and other links? So this way we can crowdsource and work smarter not harder about downloading and scraping all the files off the gov websites? #academicchatter On another note this feels like a dystopia 🥲

Education scholar friends: People don’t necessarily understand the value of education research in the same intuitive way they understand the value of research into cancer, etc. Drop examples of high-impact edu research in the thread below. #edusky apple.news/Atlzcr6jARYG...

DOGE has cut nearly $1 billion in federal education research, affecting projects to understand challenges such as post-Covid academic recovery; disability issues; behavior problems; and the sharp rise in student absenteeism. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/11/u...

If analyses of disability/ableism are not integrated into the social justice work you’re doing, they need to be.

The federal changes and cuts to Institute of Education Sciences and other federal Department of Education directly threaten the ability to address the teacher shortage crisis in Kansas and in the US. See more here and consider telling your legislators: exceptionalchildren.org/takeaction?v...

dear reporters: please try to add alt text on your images! lots of disabled folks use bluesky (along with the rest of the internet) and many others allied in their struggle do not want to share posts that ignore them. i won’t share your posts if you don’t use alt text!

I am one of these NSF postdocs. NSF has frozen everyone’s access to their salaries and research stipends (that were already awarded) with no information about when they might be expected to be unfrozen. It still appears like we are expected to continue doing our work though.

I've spent the last decade chronicling how the lies of people like RFK Jr. has actively harmed #ActuallyAutistic people and their loved ones. I spent Kennedy's confirmation with his biggest fans as they repeated his lies. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

Why do many disabled people urge you to wear a mask? Because we know how the system works. Viruses can disable you and once you become disabled, doctors won't listen to you, you'll have to fight to receive any assistance, and you'll get denied over and over again. We want you to mask to spare that.

Today in Hell Yes, Research! Please know that "It is not autism itself that leads to a poor quality of life, but instead, a lack of social support and acceptance." Not awareness. Acceptance. This where our work lies, and we're glad to have you here with us. www.frontiersin.org/journals/psy...

Fellow scientists, please consider speaking w/ media about what this means for "regular Americans." The link below is to contact a reporter who's collecting stories about the unfolding NIH situation - pls share anonymously or on record. @anniewaldman.bsky.social www.propublica.org/people/annie...

Even if you have the greatest autism/disability content ever, we're 500% less likely to share it if you don't have alt-text (we don't share stuff without alt-text so we have to write it ourselves). Here are some GOOD guidelines for creating alt-text! www.levelaccess.com/blog/alt-tex...

Dear society. My disabilities are not “superpowers”. I don’t do things “despite” my disabilities, nor “overcome” them. I manage them as best as possible and suffer the consequences. I am not your inspiration porn. I just want a quiet life, to be accepted. & supported.

Some of my brilliant colleagues developed a new tool for contextualizing effect sizes for social & behavioral outcomes! ebcontextualizer.shinyapps.io/EmpBench/ described in this article www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
