Thank you so much Ruth! 😊

Thanks Michael! I'll have a look. There tends to be much more on how to protect participants but not that much on how to make sure researchers are ok as well.

It's a breed of guinea pig that is characterised by long curly hair that parts in the middle 😊

Thank you Andrea! Zoltan is very real 😊 He is a one-year old Texel guinea pig 😊 He is very adorable.

Zoltan feels that his own heritage is represented through the mighty capybara relatives 🐾 Although he might be unaware that their sounds are a bit alarming 😳

Thank you very much! I resisted the tradition of having humanoid illustrations. The design of the diagrams is by @richardacarter.bsky.social

I could be submitting reviews for topics I know nothing about and apparently nobody would notice. This has never happened with any other publisher which makes me question their validity.

My other concern about MDPI is that I get the oddest requests for reviews. Literally I don't understand even the words in the title or the abstract and they are sending them to me...This makes me think that they are not looking at who the reviewers are and that they don't care.

I don't see a benefit to academia in this and I do genuinely think it results in lower quality work being published as there's no space to develop ideas. I think it encourages a model of 'let's churn out papers' just to boost CVs and I think it's worrying.

I do have concerns about MDPI having reviewed for them. I think reviews are incredibly light touch by some reviewers and not sure they are being monitored carefully. I also don't like their 'fast turnaround' model, which pushes reviewers to rush reviews and then authors to rush corrections.

Thanks! This is really useful! I've never published with Frontiers or reviewed for them, so this is good to know. I think it would have been good for them to explain this before contacting reviewers and maybe even explain what format that public information would take.

Not sure what you are referring to as scientific societies. I work in the arts and humanities.

Is Frontiers considered to be a predatory journal? I already don't review for MDPI as I consider them to be and don't like the way the journal operates as I think it encourages rushed non thorough reviews and work.

If it makes you feel better I don't even know what it is 🀣
