Le Monde reporting that a French scientist traveling to Houston to attend a conference was denied entry to US after a search of his phone & computer revealed messages critical of Trump's science cuts, "which [says CPB] conveyed hatred of Trump & could be qualified as terrorism". Computer confiscated

"is my writing meaningful enough?" hey, come here. closer. clooooser. [grabs your dumb face] there's meaning in everything. clearly, it was enough for you to write a wholeass story. refine, learn, improve, but never question your creative worth, because that shit is invaluable. you're doing great.

People who are still writing stately essays about how 'fascism has arrived at our doorstep’: My dudes, autocracy rode down the escalator a decade ago. We get it, we've all read our Hannah Arendt. Hit the streets with the rest of us or find another way to make yourselves useful. The ship has sailed.

Somehow managed to make it through 12 years of schooling and an English degree without reading The Grapes of Wrath until now, and what better way to escape the moment than reading about people displaced by climate disaster and technology

NEW: Mahmoud Khalil's wife, Noor, files an upsetting but powerful statement with the court: "The past week has been the worst of my life, and I find myself without my single greatest source of support, in my time of greatest need." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

ICE stripped a German green card holder naked, drove him from Boston to Vermont to Rhode Island, put him in a cold shower, deprived him of medication, sleep and food until he collapsed. No one knows why he was detained.

The Trump regime will arrest you in the middle of the night because you spoke your mind. And federal agents in plain clothes who refuse to identify themselves will be the ones to do it. If you think I'm being hyperbolic, watch this clip.

If you sit down and write, care, invent the world, struggle, solve problems, connect, fictionalize, and read, you are now doing something old fashioned. Crafty. At least you know a thing or two about life. At the VERY least, you have tried to KNOW, while others slip the hood over their own heads.

they call it the radical left because it's really cool

So what the hell was this about, @altnps.bsky.social ? It was deleted as I read it.

No Dem Senator has to follow Schumer here. This is a weak stategic move driven by fear and learned helplessness. Don't follow him. He's leading the party into irrelevance and helping Trump and Musk in the process. Call your Dem Senators and ask them not to join Schumer's surrender tomorrow.

I like this Alex Norris comic

Just a reminder for aspiring writers out there: - it took me 10 years to find the right agent - my first 4 books never got published (and one in the middle) - my daily goal for writing is just 500 words - it’s mostly luck & showing up - spite is my main motivator - I still have imposter syndrome

🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave. Tell them: 1. Vote NO on Cloture AND 2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill. Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it. TODAY is the showdown. 🤳🏽: (202) 224-3121

I NEED GOOD, THOUGHTFUL LEADERS TO GET WAY BETTER AT USING THE INTERNET LIKE FIVE YEARS AGO

Silent protest doesn’t work when their goal is to keep you silent.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Portland and Salem to decry the Trump administration on the day the president is set to address Congress. The demonstrations were part of the 50501 movement that has held protests to stand against President Trump and Elon Musk. www.oregonlive.com/portland/202...

Just saying.

Ordered this from my local bookstore a few weeks ago, for no particular reason at all đź‘€.

Clubs and bars are out. Let's open a late night Bookstore where you can silently mingle, drink tea, and read into all hours of the night.

Literacy is activism. Reading is a political act. Books are tools for liberation.

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

from “Parable of the Talents” by Octavia Butler

Elon Musk is the only immigrant living in the USA I support the deportation of.

I just introduced an amendment that stops the Republican plans to pay for their massive tax cuts for billionaires on the backs of working Americans. Predictably, Republicans are outraged—because nothing makes them angrier than the idea of billionaires paying their fair share.
