"here lies one whose name is writ in water" is exactly the epitaph you'd choose if you were a spy who went to Italy to fake your own death, kill off your 'tubercular poet' persona, and assume a new identity

I had film professors who’d say things like that & it really bummed me out… until I remembered how much critical & popular acclaim the Coen Brothers have and how much they love good, tangy dialogue

on the old bird site, @jamesfrankiethomas.bsky.social watched the Gerwig 'Little Women' & came away with a very well-argued theory that Beth March has autism, and I've never thought of that character the same way since

And then I went "wait, is 'Kavalier and Clay' just 'Road Show'?I mean, it's about two creative, artistic cousins: a handsome straight man & a nerdy gay man." OK, Joe Kavalier is way less annoying than Wilson Mizner, & there are other differences too, but it's prob. the closest Sondheim comparison?

Were we in the same third grade class?! I am a cis woman who was bad at sports & liked sewing and dolls, and my third grade frenemy/bully would take every opportunity to sneeringly inform me that she was cool because she was a "tomboy," but everything about me was "pathetic"

Oh, I see! Kind of the same spirit as our Canadian friends' "we stand on guard for thee"

On the rooster plate, do you think the motto is a misspelling of "j'éveille pour la nation"? I can't make sense of it otherwise

I’m starting to feel guilty for ever having liked & agreed with tweets à la “I’m so burnt out, I wish I still lived in a time where a doctor would prescribe you a rest cure by the seaside.” Like, did that sort of whimsical girly-posting pave the way for THIS?
