In 2017, at the end of his first 100 days in office, Donald Trump made a political appearance at a manufacturing plant in Michigan, touting his economic plans. In 2025, he had to find a new place to hold his rally. The company has closed its (American) doors and moved to China. That’s winning.

While U.S. financial markets, and the retirement funds for many, tank, Trump did what he does best , went golfing. As you may recall, Trump golfed a lot during his first term, over 261 rounds of golf, costing American taxpayers over $180 million. We deserve so much better.

The schadenfreude regarding Elon Musk is strong. I don’t know who else connected the dots; Musk bought Twitter with Tesla stock and borrowed money. I expect that the terms on some of the borrowed money was a one year note, so Elmo had to sell X to another company he owned to generate capital.

So I am torn, as a veteran of the US Navy and patriot. Because if the US sent forces to Greenland and Denmark resisted, I’d be supporting Denmark. I am a patriot, but “My country, right or wrong” is not a concept I support. When we are wrong we should learn from our mistakes.

In a late Friday email, Trump’s head of the Office of Presidential Personnel, Sergio Gor, terminated, with immediate effect, the Inspectors Generals of about a dozen federal entities, including State, Interior, Education and Defense. This despite Congress requiring a 30 day notice.
