A gamedev haiku: Wrote shaders all night It did not go well although Some progress was made

A nice writeup of Pup Cup in Engadget, identifying it as an entry in the burgeoning Rootlike genre. www.engadget.com/gaming/if-yo...

Good that the Times is tracking his deeds and words like this. www.nytimes.com/interactive/... Next level would be to organize all the known steps in democracy's replacement by authoritarian governance, and report it as news when he reaches them, so that we know where we are— and what remains.

in the trump administration, “merit” is pronounced “white” like how strom thrumond said it.

Saving this to use a prompt for the next game jam I host.

i feel like this is evidence for my view that people experience trump through a strong form of ironic detachment. they literally do not perceive him as real.

seems like it is a big deal that the unifying ideology of the doge team is neo nazism

I think every designer should write a love letter to a font at least once in their lifetime. This is mine: A 150-year-old font you have likely never heard of, and one you probably saw earlier today. aresluna.org/the-hardest-...

Not exaggerating when I say that the path back is going to be built on people in positions of influence regaining their sense of self-respect. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/02...

Well, you shouldn't have declared war on me twice in 30 turns, then. #Civ7

It got fixed in the 1.0.1 patch. Looks quote nice now! #Civ7

Software development, everybody.

I thought Bluesky was cool. But it's just a bunch of losers talking about the Super Bowl like everywhere else.

this type of smug cynicism is corrosive to the very core of democracy

this stuff makes perfect sense when you understand that these people have a slaveholder’s ideology and believe that liberty means the freedom to dominate others

Can enough people like this so we can convince the team to make a Firefox plushie? Thank youuuu

I don't think people realize that congressional Democrats are less hesitant to destroy peoples lives in order to score political points. Is there an argument that playing chicken with an irrational actor is a good political move? Sure, I guess. But that's genuinely not the only factor at play.

Check out this sweet cosmetic item I got for my hero. #Civ7

Civ VII's UI is a bit undercooked, but unlike the review bombing that the game is getting for it, I'm more confused than upset by it. It's not *that* bad. That said, this chart can go straight to hell:

Playing Civ VII and unironically enjoying the new diplomacy system. These two strong allies of mine are currently at war with each other. This is not a bug, it's a situation I engineered.

Video games.

Some cursor designs I made and then rejected for a project I'm working on (not Dreamsettler, confusingly).

Let people make mistakes.

Streaming music services: When I press the shuffle button on an artist, I truly mean "shuffle." I don't mean "play their biggest single followed by their greatest hits." Like, I don't wanna listen to "Zombie," I wanna hear some Cranberries deep cuts!

Me opening the news every fucking morning

Decided to clear the cobwebs from my Unity project's cache so I deleted its Library folder to trigger a re-import. Then I did 3 Sudokus. Then I waited a bit and got bored. Then I looked up the plural of "Sudoku" to write this post. It's now up to 45%. It's a big project, is what I'm saying.

I'm at "chewed a spoon into pieces" levels of stress, thank you.

An important piece by @dahlialithwick.bsky.social and @mjsdc.bsky.social There is so much sneering at 'leftists' right now as if the urgency, terror and frustrations with Dem leadership are performative. Real harms are happening to real people as we speak. Maybe just not to you.

Populism exploits the virtue that there *must* be no *explicit* qualifications to become president. "A republic, if you can keep it" wasn't hyperbole. There's no ideal set of mechanisms or rules that can stop pure assholes, nor should they be created. They way lies corruption. It's up to *people*.

Bankers Wall Clock by Arne Jacobsen (1970)

Please take a moment and consider this guy's tiny feets look how proud he is of he feets

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country

Persistent online leaderboards are unethical.

This is funny but I genuinely think No Man's Sky's "redemption story" permanently harmed developers, especially small teams. That gamers look to this as the right way to respond to their whining might be worse for the industry than when the App Store decided all games were worth $0.99.

OpenAI right now

Joanna taught me Godot for this!
