That cover reminds me of Kitty Cat Kill Sat: A Feline Space Adventure by Argus. Just Argus. I don't remember where I heard about it but I'm confused and curious 😅

oh, that's on my tbr on Goodreads! The octopus is so cool.

Perks of being known as a reader on set: people would walk up and hand me books they love that they thought I'd like. This one came from someone in the art department :) I think she shows up in Out of Africa for a minute too.

Yeah, I took Pg for long walks with Immense World and listened to a chapter or two at a time with nothing else to focus on. I want a physical version because I semi-regularly remember a small thing and want to read sections again. Just waiting for a paperback avail at @honestdogbooks.bsky.social

This podcast talks about these two, but I'd heard of 2am a few other times too. bookriot.com/listen/the-m...

Good to know I (hopefully) have the right vibes going for this list! Let me know if you read any of these, I don't feel bad if you don't read any of them.

Forgot the one I'm currently reading that seems pretty universally loved! A Psalm for the Wild-Built (F, SciFi). Cozy, hopeful, something or other. It's 130pages, I didn't need much else after being repeatedly told to read it.

Backyard Bird Chronicles (NF -NR). I thiiink this is the bird one that talks about birds in humorous ways. With drawings. Woman in the Polar Night (NF, Memoir -NR). Woman moves from Austria to the Arctic in 1934. Expected time to read. Got a tough landscape to navigate. Will stop here for now.

Who is Government (NF -NR). The untold stories of people working in public service doing small, important things without public praise/gratitude. Sounds hopeful. Everything is TubeTuberculosis (NF -NR). History of TB, people seem very hyped on it.

Haven't read by want to... 2am at the Cat's Pajamas (F, cozy -NR). Described as a sweet story rallying around a little girl with Gilmore Girl vibes. Zero Stars to Not Recommend (F, scifi/distopian -NR). Heard it's good. Opening line is "Dan was on his fifth Miller Lite when the sun exploded." In.

Wild Dark Shore by McConaghy (F, mystery/thriller -R) Nature writer writes a genre book. Read it this year, loved it, will be reading the rest of her books. Highly recommend.

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Van Pelt (F -R) is a Hallmark movie level of cozy in a book about a woman who befriends an octopus.

Cork Dork by Bosker (NF -R). If you're at all into wine, this journalist taking a year off work to try to become a sommelier is a fun, light read. Reminded me of Kitchen Confidential by Bourdain in tone.

Newest Hunger Games book, Sunrise on the Reaping (F, YA -NotRead) is getting a lot of love right now if you've read the rest of the series. Dark Matter by Crouch (F, scifi/fantasy -R) Everyone else seems to love this time traveling thriller more than me.

Space nerd? The Right Stuff by Wolfe (NF -R) The guys at the startup of NASA. Pairs well with Challenger by Higginbotham (NF -R). Not so happy but fascinating and probably my favorite read this year. Will now read everything but this author.

Nature enjoyment... A Walk in the Wood by Bill Bryson (NF- R). When a funny person writes about walking the Appalachian trail. I need to reread it. An Immense World by Yong (NF, Animals -R). Listened to it and I need to buy it. How different animals perceive the world. So good.

West with the Night (NF, Memoir -R) Badass woman grew up in Kenya in early 1900s, became bush pilot, first person to attempt to fly solo east to west across the Atlantic.

Genre books I couldn't put down: The River- Heller (F, thriller -R). The story most written for me. So very good. God of the Woods- Moore (F, litfic, mystery -R) Top 3 read last year. Set at a summer camp. The Plot- Korelitz (F, mystery? -R) Read it in two days a few years ago. Fast and fun.

If you liked The Martian, I also liked Weir's other book, Project Hail Mary (F, SciFi - R). I hear it's even better as an audiobook. Actually, if you like audiobooks, Tina Fey, Mindy Kaling, and Amy Poehler all read their memoirs and are fun to listen to.

Packing for Mars by Mary Roach (NF, almost sci fi- R). She writes science for normal people. Answers the question on what it would take to go to Mars. Looks into current space programs. I also really want to read her Grunt.

Crighton's Sphere (F, SciFi- R) is pretty great. Tense underwater goodness, my favorite of his of the few I've read.

A Moveable Feast by Hemingway (NF- R). The book version of Midnight in Paris (movie). Not super gripping unless you are into that time period or Paris, but great if you're into either of those things.

Enders Game (F, YA, SciFi- R). This book burned its way through our friend group after college. Not always the most hopeful, it's about games training for war, but was a lot of fun for many to read.

Buckle up/sorry. I’ve read (R) Surely You’re Joking Mr Feynman NonFiction (NF), it’s one of my favorite books. It’s Feynman (yes, the physicist guy) writing stories that read like hanging around a campfire. A brilliant, curious mind exploring the world.

I haven’t read it, but after hearing about it on a podcast I suggested Band People: Life and Work in Popular Music by Nicolay. He plays keyboard in bands and interviews the people outside of the spotlight about working in the industry.

Genre preference? Fiction or non? Litfit or commercial fiction? I have many thoughts on this (which should surprise no one).

Puma is also holding their belly open to the sun! Page is the first dog I’ve seen regularly do that! #weirdo
comment in response to post
Page is also such a sun baby no matter the temps.

Right?? She’s not wrong for asking for her own setup
comment in response to post
Yeah, I think she might be getting one…with her own pillow and blanket… 🤦‍♀️ The real question is if she gets this size or one size bigger

She’s doing it in a way that the other dog thinks she wins- so I’m just glad she uses her brain for good instead of evil

The cat made sure Page would become her friend and bodyguard. The cat got her way.

Have you ridden the RAMBA trails of the UP yet?

Okay, but right now it's the phase where I am just doing breed research and looking at genetic testing and temperaments of a breeder. I will send you a link for your input on the *slightly* wild pups.
