Try out Cline - more streamlined than Cursor IMO. Cursor « indexes » your files with embeddings but it’s still not that good at working with existing projects for refactoring

Try using Claude Projects from with Claude Desktop with the new filesystem MCP extension that lets Claude read and write files - it’s kind of like reverse Cursor or Cline but with your subscription

Try perplexity for that use the pro search they use Claude sonnet for complex queries

They introduced this new style feature and they keep flipping me to « concis » style which at least stops all the apologies. But maybe you need to pick a different style or make your own

Try adding a custom instruction:PRESERVE all existing comments; only add comments to explain WHY the code needs to be there; use a 5 WHYs approach until it’s clearly explained
