How not to support the Gaza ceasefire - my post on how @kajakallas.bsky.social's statement last week bought into Netanyahu's spin and why the EU needs to do better eumep.org/blog/how-not...

EU’s @kajakallas.bsky.social also backs the Arab plan for Gaza www.eeas.europa.eu/eeas/stateme...

France, Germany, Italy and UK jointly welcome the Arab plan for reconstruction of Gaza www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/newsroom/...

Damning piece on Members of European Parliament who hosted this group. The group has also advocated ethnic cleansing of Gaza yet was allowed to speak in the EP Delegation for Israel - I wrote about that here at the time: x.com/MartinKonecn...

The West has Long Demanded of Palestinians what Trump Demanded of Ukraine — and More

NEW COMMENTARY | Israel’s West Bank Incursions Highlight the Dilemmas of Palestinian Politics Israel’s campaign in the West Bank has undermined the Palestinian Authority and put hard choices facing the Palestinian national movement into sharp relief. www.crisisgroup.org/middle-east-...

German government’s antisemitism commissioner Felix Klein praises Trump's Gaza ethnic cleansing plan, claiming it’s a mere temporary resettlement. "While you're renovating your house, you're not sleeping in it either." (Trump said himself Gazans wouldn’t be allowed back.) t.co/w9AD2AmtWk

"No Other Land," the Palestinian-Israeli made film showing the destruction of the occupied West Bank's Masafer Yatta by Israeli soldiers, just won the Oscar for Best Documentary. It can't get a distributor in the US. Which tells you everything about censorship in the US.

Less than a week ago at EU-Israel Association Council, EU called on Israel to allow unimpeded aid to Gaza. It also called for respect of Syria’s sovereignty & territorial integrity. As Israel moves to do the exact opposite on both fronts, will the EU do anything? If not, what was the whole AC for?

Germany on Israel's military operation in the West Bank that has already forced 40,000 people to leave their homes: "Israel’s actions are consolidating the occupation, which, according to the ICJ Advisory Opinion of 19 July 2024 must be brought to an end" www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/newsroom/...

We've pulled out main points from EU's statement at the EU-Israel Association Council today👇 Long list of ~30 pressing EU concerns and appeals in the left column. But business as usual on bilateral relations in the right column. Here's what the EU could do next.🧵

Ireland believes wording it secured in EU statement issued at today’s EU-Israel association council may give it more space to ban trade with Israeli settlements www.rte.ie/news/politic...

Merz starts by undermining the international court built on the legacy of Nuremberg Trials. Germany has called the ICC a "great civilisational achievement". What he's likely to achieve is that Putin will be allowed to travel around the world again. www.reuters.com/world/europe...

EU says it will review raw materials deal with Rwanda over DRC conflict. Kallas: "Territorial integrity is non-negotiable, in Congo as well in Ukraine. The UN charter applies everywhere." But EU refuses to review EU-Israel Agreement or call out Israel's breaches of UN Charter👇

Not a new trend. The only fundamental contradiction here is from the side of EU far right parties that want to stop immigration but are cheering on Israel to shut down UNRWA or even expel millions of Palestinians - destabilising the region and leading to more migration Europe.

🧵On Monday, EU will hold Association Council with Israel, the highest political platform for bilateral relations. It takes place at a critical moment in Gaza ceasefire - with Netanyahu suspected of planning to derail it - and Israeli escalation in West Bank. Can EU exert any influence?

If the ceasefire deal collapses, Trump's call for mass expulsion will be an invitation for Israel to attack Gaza with an eye to forcing Palestinians out. Israeli leaders are already saying so.

The ICC guarantees accountability for international crimes and gives a voice to victims worldwide. It must be able to freely pursue the fight against global impunity. Europe will always stand for justice and the respect of international law.

Today I met with Judge Tomoko Akane, president of the International Criminal Court. The ICC plays an essential role in delivering justice to the victims of some of the world’s most horrific crimes. Independence and impartiality are crucial characteristics of the Court’s work.

It's not difficult to make a statement like this one by UNSG Guterres, showing both Israeli and Palestinian lives matter. But the EU - and vast majority of Western states - absolutely cannot bring themselves to state the parts marked in yellow.

All #EU states say #Israel 's settlements are illegal and an "obstacle to peace", linked to very serious abuses. Then why do they keep trading with them? 163 NGOs & trade unions urge @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu to #StopTradeWithSettlements, in compliance with #ICJ ruling: www.hrw.org/news/2025/02...

@peterbeinart.bsky.social talks with Fareed Zakaria about his new book "Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza” and explains how he shifted from being a strong supporter of Israel to being one of its harsh critics. www.cnn.com/2025/02/02/w...

Over 40 relatives of Israeli hostages have protested against plans for Israeli minister Amichai Chikli to speak at a holocaust remembrance event organised by two Members of the European Parliament. www.euronews.com/my-europe/20...

❗️Dutch parliament today adopted a motion to protect the ICC in response to threat of US sanctions. Motion asks Dutch gov't as host of the Court to "take concrete measures at national level" and "support measures at EU level, incl. via the Blocking Statute" to minimise the sanctions' impact.

Europe can: 1. Join the race to kiss Trump's & Musk's feet, forget about its own past, and get ready to live it again; or 2. Remember why it exists, recommit to those values, and implement them at home and abroad Which one will it be, @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu @eucopresident.consilium.europa.eu?

New UN action plans commits to help combat antisemitism & uphold human rights. It rightfully does not endorse a single definition of antisemitism, resisting pressure to adopt the problematic IHRA working definition that has been used to muzzle criticism of #Israel govt.

1/2) No, @marossefcovic.bsky.social: #EUtrade with #Israel 's illegal settlements is NOT "overall consistent" with the obligations laid out by the #ICJ It's not about trade preferences: international law requires a *blanket ban* on trade & business with settlements: www.hrw.org/news/2024/10... ...

This, to be clear, is a halving of the EU humanitarian aid for Gaza in 2024 (€238m). Nice post though.
