Terence Daintith: Attacking the Attorney General: Some constitutional and administrative context ukconstitutionallaw.org/2025/03/06/t...

Delighted to be part of this excellent open access publication in celebration of Geert Bouckaert library.oapen.org/handle/20.50...

It was a pleasure to chair @carr-lse.bsky.social workshop on Perri 6 and Eva Heims work on international cooperation - fascinating contributions by Mette Eilstrup-Sangiovanni, Mathias Koenig-Archibugi, Ed Page and Geoff Mulgan.

In our press cuttings today because of a beaver release on National Trust land. Wait till the Star hears about the fine collection of knockers we care for.

This is a very good thread that should not have been necessary at all. Governments, if you believe your own analysis of the value of (much) aid spending, it makes zero sense to make wholesale cuts. And if there's some secret discount rate to the benefit of aid, I'd love to see it.

Hello - CARR - LSE'S Centre for Analysis of Risk and Regulation is now also here. Info about our latest work on risk and regulation, including events, will feature here

I’m getting really fed up of these abstract attacks on ‘regulation’ - why is Andy Haldane advocating the Doge approach for UK - blanket halving the number of regulators and their budgets? on.ft.com/416pqlx 1/2

This has already long been put in place by the ‘legacy publishers’. All reviews are owned by the publisher and editors can send manuscripts onwards to journals set by publishers. It is all about keeping papers within a publisher ecology. This is ‘innovation’ favoured by asset sweating publishers.

It's a sign of the times that, pre-publication, this HE redundancies article started out as a story about UEA with Durham added. Then Kent was added...then Cardiff. A microcosm of UK HE right now, and a typical day in the life at the moment. www.researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-uk-u...

As a tribute to Professor Christopher Hood who died earlier this month, we have made this 2006 article written with Martin Lodge free to view. From Sir Humphrey to Sir Nigel: What Future for the Public Service Bargain after Blairworld? @ox.ac.uk onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10....

So, after Nick Timothy on "How to win an election" and David Frost on "How to do a great trade deal", the Telegraph adds another to its list of star columnists...

"Wer glaubte, dass man Hitler integrieren, kontrollieren, domestizieren, entzaubern könne, wurde bald schon eines Besseren belehrt. Auch der Versuch mancher Demokraten [...] Hitler mit seinen eigenen Waffen zu schlagen, indem man seine Themen aufgriff & seine Strategien kopierte, liefen ins Leere."

University of Oslo is hiring 2-4(!) Associate Professors in Political Science. The call is open to candidates from all subfields. Deadline is February 3rd. It comes with amazing colleagues, great work conditions, and lots of snow. Brown cheese, salmon, and cross-country skis can be supplementary.

Rarely read such a poor column.

The Albanese Government committed to rebuilding public sector capacity prior to the 2022 election but reliance on consultants is still an overwhelming feature of its policy making. The overuse of consultancies leads to bad government decisions ⤵️ australiainstitute.org.au/report/neith... #auspol

Important 🧵on our new peer-reviewed paper: The pandemic is as bad as it ever was for babies - in year to Aug 2023, 6,300 babies under 1 were admitted to hospital wholly or partly BECAUSE of Covid. They are ONLY age group where admissions have NOT gone down over time 1/17

It was wonderful to be at the EGPA conference in Athens - much to learn for public administration beyond the paper presentations and engaged discussions. The need to have a conversation about the sustainability of these events - environmental and financial - remains.

This is a fascinating piece, love the finding about UK Supreme Court judgements. That said, I do wish we’d stop using the term “new elite”, even to, as this piece does, dismiss it. Rightly, no-one else bar Goodwin is currently suggesting that the UK has a “new” elite (we should be so lucky).
