Among those Trump and Musk fired at the FAA: - Lawyers who help keep drunk or reckless pilots out of the skies - Air traffic control support staff - Employees who track potential new flying hazards like cranes - Staffers who medically clear pilots to fly www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

I respect FIRE’s legal advocacy but reporters really need to stop using FIRE’s rankings unless you truly believe that campus speech is most free in southern states that have banned ideas and concepts from being taught in the classroom

When they fire the Chair of the Joint Chiefs and the Chief of the Navy next week, they’ll use words like DEI. The left will chalk it up to racism and sexism. But that’s only part of it. Mostly they just want people who they believe will carry out illegal or unethical orders.

So if you criticize Elon Musk, Trump’s DOJ will send you this letter. Members of Congress must have the right to forcefully oppose the Trump Administration. I will not be silenced.

I'm no expert but it seems to me that the best way to neutralize this is to go public with it, and even better to do so as a group. Also, doing so would transform you from complicit coward to courageous constitutionalist.

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

With college / no college the biggest D / R predictor even for stem or biz students, yes I think the Rs intend to smash universities across the board until they either turn off the 'indoctrinate' switch GOP imagines they have, or until kids just stop going to college

"Leavitt might as well have turned the microphone over to Big Brother to let him say, 'We have always been at war with Eurasia.'"

BREAKING: Ranking Member Raskin demands Attorney General Bondi halt illegal intimidation campaign targeting the DOJ’s Public Integrity Office.

Three combat tours in Iraq. Two Bronze Stars. Clerk for Chief Justice John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh. Does not roll over for dictators, no matter what party they claim to represent.

This is how it's done. "If no lawyer within earshot of the President is willing to give him that advice, then I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me.” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/14/n...

Do they have to be quite so obvious about the “a woman correcting you is worse than a man abusing you” thing

Thanks so much for reading and sharing!

“MaYbe shE’s goiNg to be in TroUble nOw” Maybe he can learn to read. The Constitution would be a good place to start

It’s crucial in this utterly lawless and corrupt administration that we recognize the people who acted with integrity and remember, forever, those who did not.

Pleased to see that the SHIELD Act, the federal bill prohibiting nonconsensual distribution of intimate images (NDII) that is based on the model statute I wrote for @cybercivilrights.bsky.social over a decade ago, has just been reintroduced in the Senate: www.klobuchar.senate.gov/public/index...

Appreciate the citation to my June 2024 Congressional testimony rejecting Republican attempts to characterize criticism and counterspeech as censorship

How much Elon Musk makes from the government a day: $8 million. How much a senior on Social Security gets a day: $65 Guess which budget Musk and Trump want to cut?

It has never been about "merit": "Trump’s war on D.E.I. is a war on the civil rights era itself, an attempt to turn back the clock on equal rights," writes @jamellebouie.net www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/o...

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Administrative Law is holding a hearing at 10 ET on “Reining in the Administrative State”: judiciary.house.gov/committee-ac... I’m the minority witness. My testimony offers some thoughts about reining in the *real* executive branch abuses we’re currently seeing.

This whole thread.

Some of us already have! From my 2024 book Fearless Speech:

Glad to see this from the @abaesq.bsky.social.

A lot of racists are desperate for an excuse to explain their own mediocrity

I got death threats for writing about heavy metal bands that happened to have women in them. These wealthy politicians need to grow up

Truly, we are at a moment when we need organizations — the ABA, ALI, law firms, law schools — speaking out. As Judge Coughenour said, “There are other times in world history where we look back and people of goodwill can say where were the judges, where were the lawyers?” It’s time for the lawyers.

Purging dissent in the security services and giving loyalists power is something we *instantly* recognize in other contexts.

MAGA morality: Put thousands of federal employees on leave, cut aid that sustains countless lives, demonize your opponents, and then enjoy the suffering of your enemies. But then - when one DOGE worker is fired for vicious racism -say, "Where's the grace and mercy in this country?"

Hey, everyone. Let's share Rose's website as far and often as possible. Her name was scrubbed from NASA's website thanks to orders to erase women in STEM. Rose fought through poverty and homelessness, and every time I look at the moon, I think of her. www.rosedf.space/explore

In the absence of social media enabling them to find each other, form a movement, and seize political power, we'd recognize much of the far-right as just profoundly psychologically and emotionally unwell people, the way we can see that Kanye's Nazism is part of his acute mental illnesses.

Confirming what @marisakabas.bsky.social had earlier today: The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received an order this week from DOJ, its primary funder: remove references to trans people in its public materials, in accordance to Trump's anti-trans EO. NCMEC is complying.

There is no act of censorship more explicit than literally banning words. The Trump administration is requiring federal agencies to remove all references to “gender,” “diversity” and “inclusion” from federal documents.

1/DOJ doesn't publicly acknowledge criminal referrals or opening cases. It doesn't shill for "news" sources as in "sent only to X." It doesn't comment on how it conducts investigations. And, the fawning talk about Musk shows that Martin knows who the real power in this administration is.

If you are a member of the DC Bar and would like to file a complaint against Acting DC Attorney Ed Martin for violating Rules 3.1 and 3.8 of the DC Rules of Professional Conduct, you can do so here: www.dcbar.org/attorney-dis...

The majority of NCMEC's budget - the funds it uses to find missing children and report child exploitation - comes from federal funding. The Trump administration is threatening to take it all away unless the organization censors all references to the existence of LGBTQI+ kids.

Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

Three Democrats are saying Ro Khanna was given a heads-up about the vote to subpoena Elon Musk, and accusing him of intentionally missing the vote in the House Oversight Committee. (Khanna, who has ties to Musk, has said he was unaware.) www.politico.com/live-updates...

I find this so ugly and pernicious. These two aren't pursuing principled, independent scholarship. They're racing to build intellectual scaffolding for Trump's lawless order by skimming the history books and cherry-picking quotes out of context. The most intellectually bankrupt form of originalism.

This is actually breathtaking. A post by the CEO of X, owned by an unhinged oligarch who routinely calls for his critics to be jailed and currently leading a violent assault against US democracy, extolling the virtues of free speech & X's commitment to "preserving free speech around the world."
