One of the AUSAs put on administrative leave by this letter is Hagan Scotten, my former Hogan Lovells colleague. I am not surprised that he would risk his job for his convictions; he has some of the strongest personal integrity of anyone I've worked with.

I always remember the names of those who were Brave. For example I still remember Aaron Van Langevelde, a 30 yo old bespectacled Republican lawyer in Trump 1.0 who certified the election in Michigan for Biden in 2020, despite being under intense pressure to lie, and being "disappointed Trump lost".

You're not allowed to tell your client (in this case, the USA by way of the Justice Department) to fuck off if they want you to do the case a certain way AND do the case the way you want. You have to withdraw your representation, and since these lawyers were employees, that means resigning.
