It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

Ukraine has not suffered "millions" of losses by any reliable estimate, either in terms of civilian or military casualties. isw.pub/UkraineFacts...

Exactly right

Magnificent

Last night @60minutes.bsky.social opened an otherwise superb segment on Germany’s approach to online hate speech by saying “in the U.S., most of what’s said on online [social media] platforms is protected by the First Amendment.” No.The First Amend protects us against GOVT infringements on speech.

While I wait for the email that tells me whether I’ve been fired or spared, here’s a thread of things I’ve had the privilege of working on, experiencing, and accomplishing in my 10 months as a federal employee at the Storm Prediction Center. 1/?

Folks: I am NOT affiliated with the group that is using my name to support an economic boycott. Please spread this post, if you would.

Interesting: the State Department’s procurement forecast detailing a $400 million order for "armored Tesla" has now been edited to "armored electric vehicles." The document shows the edit was made tonight at 9:12 p.m. -- after it was highlighted in reports

There is literally HIV being transmitted from mom to baby because of the illegal shutdown of US AID and now Trump’s State Department wants to spend 400 million dollars on Tesla cyber trucks. This is not about efficiency. It’s a smash and grab.

We need to banish the phrase "claimed without evidence" from journalism. Because 100% of the time it means "This public figure told this lie, but my news organization's conventions prevent me from saying it's a lie, even though it's an obvious lie." Calling a lie a lie ought to be the convention.

From independent @USAID sources, >800 contracts and awards are being terminated en masse – with the procurement team subject to hourly checks on speed of executing terminations. The pace has exceeded the ability to confirm whether lifesaving assistance or any Congressional mandate is affected.

Tesla paid $0 in federal income tax last year. 2022: $0 2021: $0 2020: $0 2019: $0 2018: $0 Tesla reported $6.7 billion in profit in those years.

The reckless decision to release billions of gallons of water from the Terminus and Schafer Dams is already hurting farms and farmers. It’s a massive waste. I'm demanding answers from the Army Corps of Engineers about what happened. And why.

When you solve for the wrong problem, not only do you not get the solution, you can cause harm. The President wasted water that was being saved for farmers for a PR stunt. This was harmful, ludicrous, and solved nothing.

No way on God’s earth should this be allowed. If it is, people are going to find out very quickly what they did not know about what their government does, or sadly, did.

In 2016 the NYT ran multiple front page stories page about the grave national security risk of Hillary Clinton's server. Today's front page, and nary a mention of the successful "plutocratic coup" (said by a sitting House member) or "constitutional crisis (said by a sitting Senator) unfolding

Suggest that Congress impeach both the Treasury Secretary and the President.

Again, buyer beware. Trump has neither the authorization nor an appropriation to fund this, and is bound by a law limiting the value of such payments to $25K. Inducing people into an agreement you can’t and won’t perform is called “fraud in the inducement.”

Please remember this as the D.C. U.S. Atty threatens to take action against those who commit the crime of…revealing the publicly available names of the young men who are rifling through govt computers? www.cnn.com/2024/11/27/b...

Way to go Senator Schatz! Doing what you can. Thank you.

There is bipartisan support to cut red tape and make the government better. But that doesn’t involve giving an unelected billionaire complete control. DOGE is not a government agency and Elon is not a government employee or appointee. Is the GOP just a bunch of lemmings?

Yes. While there are absolutely things Democrats can and must do to slow, obstruct, etc, GOP hold both House and Senate majorities, severely limiting our options. Johnson and Thune are handing over the own keys and relinquishing their own power. Even for the cynics this should be a shock.

You say: they shutdown USAID. You mean: they illegally broke in to a secure facility over a weekend, hijacked sensitive data on vulnerable people and US businesses, destroyed property Americans paid for, cut off resources for sick and hungry families, and fired Americans across the country.

Lawyers on here: Is there a legal challenge underway to Musk's apparent seizure of federal spending? If not, why not?

Seen on my news and academic feeds today: "This is highly illegal!" "Where are the courts?" "Someone needs to arrest him/them!" "The military needs to oust them!" "WHERE ARE THE DEMS?" This is the denial stage of grief. None of the above institutions are coming to save us. We are all we've got.

Oh look. A President, a Governor, a Mayor - all at the crash site at the Chesapeake Bay with first responders. Not swimming. Showing empathy and leadership.
