WHAT THE FUCK IS IN THOSE BOXES

Good lord, that last sentence of Viser’s is so deeply contemptible and illustrative of how American journalists have lost their way entirely.

More Democratic elected officials should reflexively remind audiences that their ideas are broadly popular and that Republicans’ are not (to the point where they’re sick of saying it).

So the deal was, we wrecked trust with the EU, which is remilitarizing (and talking about going into Ukraine?), in exchange for no minerals.

Seems like why the meeting imploded was more like "Trump is senile and has lost all impulse control and JD Vance is pickled in online fash propaganda" www.semafor.com/article/02/2...

This is happening on Tuesday, Chicago.

worth saying again that this was a bait and switch. if trump had openly announced he was running on allowing companies to discriminate against women and minorities he would not have won wapo.st/43aVQg1

anyway periodic reminder that congress can at any time they wish, and should tomorrow, end this

we may be one of the few pubs that got this headline right Trump And Vance Ambush Zelensky In Prelude To Betrayal talkingpointsmemo.com/news/trump-a...

No, this is the most ashamed you've felt as an American *so far*.

Happening now: in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood, students at Sullivan High School are walking out this afternoon in protest of ICE and Trump's deportation regime.

"Totalitarianism in power invariably replaces all first-rate talents, regardless of their sympathies, with those crackpots and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity is still the best guarantee of their loyalty." - Hannah Arendt

Data shows Chicago speed cameras prevented hundreds of serious and fatal crashes, so Mayor Johnson's plan to install 50 more of them makes sense. If ticket equity is a concern, why not reinstate the Clear Path program's 50% discount on fines for lower-income residents? @daniellaspata.bsky.social

"Miller is carrying out the daily work of governance while Trump serves as head of state, focusing on the fun parts of being president."

MAGA generally sees tertiary sector jobs as unnecessary parasites on the primary and secondary sectors, but they're indispensable to productivity gains in the latter two, and the US just isn't positioned to compete with China and India through sheer manpower

@brbarrett.bsky.social yet again bringing together the big themes of this moment with DOGE: "They have found no fraud, just democracy at work. They’re apparently eager to see what happens when it no longer does." @wired.com www.wired.com/story/doge-w...

I love our piecemeal reproduction of Roman concrete. It's one of the best, most engaging real world examples of epistemology, philosophy of science, and philosophy of technology there is. So damn good.

Either we have Article 1 of the Constitution that gives spending power to the legislative branch or the Constitution is meaningless

"While the Times and Journal articles certainly hold back from the language the plain facts of what both pieces describe make clear that the best conceptual model for DOGE is something between an “insider threat” action and a terrorist operation." talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/two-g...

I appreciate the deep reporting here but would add one thing: This isn’t just an attack on the federal workforce. It’s an assault on the entire country. We ALL rely on government services that Musk is paralyzing. The impact of his cuts will only grow more horrific. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/28/u...

Wow. Republican and Independent state legislative leaders in Alaska write to the state's all Republican Congressional delegation with a dire warning:

Oh this is just straight-up treasonous black hat shit www.nytimes.com/2025/02/28/u...

Looking at some survey data here. Trump/Elon cutting off all cancer cure research is the issue that freaks voters out more than any other, also the one they've heard the least about. Important for voters to hear more about this.

A month ago i sat on hold with social security. Estimated time: 2 hours Actual time: 4.5 hours I can't even imagine what a 50% reduction will do.

“One of the unreleased reports says the cutbacks threaten the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip”

This is also why I think it is a mistake for universities and corporations to simply re-brand DEI policies. They need to defend the underlying principles (integration is good, diversity makes us better) rather than trying to outrun a fascist assault that will be trained on the re-brand

Since the 1950s, Summer Language Workshops at Indiana University have provided training in Russian, East European, and Central Asian languages. Generations have come to Bloomington to study Romanian, Polish, Kazakh, etc. Rubio just cancelled all of them languageworkshop.indiana.edu/summer-langu...

An HHS spokesperson confirms FDA’s flu vaccine meeting is canceled, but says strain picks will still be made in time A former official told us agency does have authority to sign off on WHO’s flu vaccine strains without consulting advisers tinalexander.github.io/notes/2025/0...

He was never asked how he would pay for IVF treatments, never pressed on denials about Project 2025. But also people didn’t believe he’d try to do the tariffs that he talked about constantly, so 🤷

I'd flip this. The right has an ideologically coherent project, which is the defense of hierarchies that have dominated American society and opposition to policies that undermine them. Liberals and the left by contrast believe vaguely in helping people they feel sorry for but don't agree how or why.

i can’t wax rhapsodically enough about what a genius gene hackman was but i will say if you haven’t seen THE CONVERSATION before, or if it’s been a minute since you did, the recent re-master they released is excellent, the film is still arguably Coppola’s masterpiece, & Hackman is stunning in it

RFK Jr’s response as Health & Human Services Secretary: “He did not mention vaccination or describe steps the federal government might be taking to help stop the outbreak.” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/26/u...

It is really hard to watch people willfully tear down an infrastructure that allowed us to double lifespans, drastically reduce poverty, and become one of the richest countries in the world.

Are we going to have a flu shot at all next fall?

They’re so used to creating pseudo-events to provide more material for the distorted frames of their bullshit machine. They are not used to these dynamics being turned against them. The left needs to seize the moment, organize its own events, and start generating content for its own viral messaging.

His are unconstitutional

they will have killed millions of people by the end of this

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at USAID. This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC. What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.

House Republican leadership has advised caucus members to avoid in-person town halls, fearing that voter backlash may become viral if circulated online. 🐔 www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

I hate it here

To recap: *Trump admin broke the law by pausing legitimate spending *The courts told him to knock it off *They didn't *Court is telling them to knock it off again Next step is to find out whether we still have an administration that will obey the courts after the courts call them on their bullshit

"It’s a familiar Silicon Valley mindset, the reason startups are forever reinventing a bus, or a bodega, or mail. It’s the implacable certainty that if you’re smart at one thing you must be smart at all of the things." www.wired.com/story/doge-i...

This unelected maniac is on a crime spree destroying the full faith and credit of the US government

I've been surprised by how happy Trump is to let Musk upstage him. I can't imagine the Trump of 2016 ever letting an advisor tower over him or make him look foolish the way Musk consistently does.

People keep saying "it's gonna be a long four years," and I keep saying: this cannot go on for even a small portion of that. People will die, government will crumble, America will go to war, and our democratic republic will be dead, buried, and rotted out top to bottom. He *must* be removed ASAP
