we really need somebody to do a "Blitzed*" for the Trumposphere *with the caveat that Blitzed is not a great book.

If you are arrested during a protest or action against ICE or CPD in Chicago, I can represent you pro bono. Email me at [email protected]. (This is an offer for criminal defense; I unfortunately don't do immigration law.)

Wrote this in the summer of 2020, definitely a good sign to be dusting it off now. "Less lethal" weapons are tools of colonial occupation marketed to police, and tools of police marketed to colonial soldiers. Anti-civilian weapons more than "less-lethal" www.scientificamerican.com/article/what...

This is what Nemik was talking about. Authority - especially tyrannical authority - is so, so, so brittle.

nextdoor has taken a turn against ice, which is probably not a good sign (for ice)

Greetings! A large immigration operation and subsequent protest in Paramount, CA has led to a large amount of gas and “less lethal” munitions. Situation ongoing. Will update as I can.

You'd better read this thread, I think

Here are some texts I got from an immigration lawyer friend of mine. Shared with permission. Some of the bleakest shit I’ve ever heard.

the morbidly rich

Their reward for serving their country is being punished for being punished for who they are by people who have never spent a day in public service, even if they are now in the government bsky.app/profile/eric...

not enough said about how, by turning the national government against states on the basis of ordinary political disagreement, trump is undermining the idea that the union is worthwhile. www.cnn.com/2025/06/06/p...

WOW. Breaking news from ABC that has the potential to cast serious doubts on today’s indictment of Mr. Abrego Garcia.

The criminal charges should be, and will be, subjected to extreme scrutiny. As should the particular ICE agents and AUSAs supporting them.

BREAKING: SCOTUS conservatives block discovery relating to DOGE as part of a lawsuit over public records requests into the entity. The action was taken over the objections of Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson.

Does the auto industry even want this?

ABC reports Kilmar Abrego Garcia is being returned to the United States abcnews.go.com/US/mistakenl...

I learned so much talking to ProPublica for this story. It's a telling window into how Trump/DOGE are using AI to shrink the government and the consequences. And even though this use is particularly ham-handed, it's a good example of the limitations of the technology more generally.🧵 @propublica.org

DOGE staff, some of whom were responsible for pushing out thousands of federal workers, texted one another on Thursday about whether they would be fired next, according to administration officials. www.wsj.com/politics/elo...

Not bad, New York Post, but come on—"ALIEN VS. PREDATOR" was right there!

1/Everyone loves a feud. But Trump-Musk fight signals how far US economy/politics has deviated from rule of law. We have entered a world in which rich people are not just donors but seek to steer the government. Unfortunately, they can quickly get speared instead. blogs.lse.ac.uk/usappblog/20...

big distinction here between “does the USG need space x?” (Y) and “does space x need elon musk?” (N), and USG has many, many ways to make that second question excruciating for space x if they choose to

also, the latest now: “A source with knowledge of the matter says that Trump White House staff have already begun the process of making phone calls and sending messages to prominent allies of both Trump and Musk…

The boys are fighting… so WIRED spoke to insiders about what's *actually happening* between Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and that Big Beautiful Bill. “If [Musk] actually successfully gets any votes switched to tank this bill and kills it, then I think at that point [Trump] is fucked.”

I'd enjoy this fight much more if I knew it was to the death

logged on for the first time today and, welp

I think Democrats should now move on to accusing Stephen Miller of acting as president without Trump's knowledge or permission. Because it's pretty clear that's what's going on.

yeah uhhhh this isn't going to end well

As someone skeptical about AI, I'm fully willing to acknowledge that I could be wrong + that 3-5 years from now this will be a normed aspect of our learning environments with many benefits for students. AI enthusiasts, though? It feels like many have anchored themselves permanently to this path.

very clever, many important lessons here

The enemy of my enemy fucking sucks!

Before landing at DHS, 22-year-old Fugate worked on the Trump campaign and interned at The Heritage Foundation. According to his LinkedIn, the bulk of his leadership experience comes from having served as secretary general of a Model UN club. New: @hannahallam.bsky.social @propublica.org

Would you guys watch this

Reporters: ask how many GS-15s there are working in the government that have so little experience and are like 20 years old. Can't be many. Maybe not any.

it's funny because, given that the chart is income *percentile* and not real income, this isn't actually a chart of non-college men getting worse off. it's just a chart of women catching up, ever so slightly

The beginning of cooking official data?

This seems important from Jake Sherman

The entire Green Mill complex is apparently up for sale 🚨🚨🚨 www.loopnet.com/Listing/4800...

zoomers will never understand the old joke about how men refuse to stop and ask for directions

- mexican man arrested for writing letters for threatening trump - letters were actually written by a wisconsin man whom the mexican guy was going to testify against for robbing him & slashing him with a box cutter - mexican guy still detained & facing deportation

since everyone is talking about headlines, one thing that sucks so much about them in this iteration of the internet is if they're really nuanced/very helpful a lot of people just tune it all out. if they're really catchy, they tend to elide a lot of context or don't quite describe the piece.

I've seen folks talk about how "in four years" they'll be able to get back to their planned projects and I really don't think that's going to work out. People & projects losing funding now will not be able to hit pause and come back once funding is restored. Hard-won progress & capacity will be lost

Cuts have consequences, illustrated. As seen on TV 📺

The way people are talking about the current demolition of research funding and HE legitimacy reminds me of the early days of COVID when I (and others) said it would be at least six years before any normalcy. Rage, despondency, rejection…eventually voting for a dictator just to feel alive.

okay, headline chat: a bunch of you have asked me who writes them and how they work. I’ll talk about it but the tl;dr is that it’s complicated and can vary a lot depending on the specific writer(s) and editor(s) involved.
