EFF has long warned about government social media surveillance. Now, in a disturbing escalation, the Trump administration is deploying AI tools and monitoring the online speech of student visa holders already in the U.S., aiming to revoke their visas.

It was the original tool to prevent tyranny. No EO or politicized federal prosecution can get a conviction unless 12 ordinary citizens agree. Maybe more people will read Why Jury Duty Matters as a reminder.

My God, the ignorance and hate! My brother has severe autism. He was autistic before vaccines. He also pays taxes, drives, works full time, and can do complex math in his head. His life is valuable, and the world is better because he is here.

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” Diary of Anne Frank January 13, 1943

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

Holy shit. Video posted by President Bukele’s team on X shows the moments before his press conference with Trump in which Trump tells him: “We want to do homegrown criminals next. You gotta build about five more places.” (h/t @titonka.bsky.social @michelekelemen.bsky.social)

If you’re not absolutely terrified by this, you should be.

THREAD: The Trump administration's DOJ has removed a study from the NIJ website that found that immigrants, and particularly undocumented immigrants, commit crimes at significantly lower rates than U.S. citizens. The study is at odds with the Trump regime's propaganda about immigrants & crime. (1)

What is it called when you have an political/economic system characterized by executive branch stock manipulation with legislative and judicial branches doing this 🙈🙉🙊?

I’ve used public transportation my whole life. The only place I ever felt scared was in Moscow.

So OpenAI is actively marketing ChatGPT to students during college finals season in the U.S. We've talked many (many) times before about the kinds of harm that can come from giving over too much epistemic and heuristic authority over to these systems, but additionally, there's been at least three…

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

This is, in large part, pandemic revenge. As far as these oligarchs are concerned, all science does is tell them stuff they cannot do. They can't keep spewing carbon. They can't keep businesses open as usual when millions are dying. They have concluded that research is the enemy of profit.

Born and raised in #Ohio. Graduated from #OhioState. Dedicated my career to fighting for quality education in my home state And I no can longer recommend attending an Ohio public college or university www.news5cleveland.com/news/politic...

If they can do this to *someone*, they can do this to *anyone*.

This is what evil does.

Double digit drops in crimes like murder, robbery, and sex offenses (-9.9% for that last one, but we can round). There should be dozens of breathless above-the-fold articles on “OMG! What is Going Right? Why Do We See Such Improvement?!” But that isn’t what we will see.

I’d like to introduce you to my now famous dog Kk. She believes that all dogs, regardless of breed, should have a loving home, cuddles, and lots of treats and that giving a doodle the same size treat as a chihuahua is inequitable.

We are outside the Ohio statehouse to show our legislators just what we think of horrible #SB1 and to fight to protect higher education in the state.

Just for ordinary people to know, if your boss tells you, in a situation like this, to cover your face and hide all identifying information (like your badge number), they’re likely about to tell you to do something immoral or illegal.

🧵 on the claim that “AI can democratize education!” Some boosters insist AI will be inspiringly transformative. As one conservative think-tanker exclaims, “So if the internet democratized access to information, the analogy essentially is AI is democratizing access to expertise.”

On Ohio SB1, Senator Cirino texts, “Let them eat cake!” www.thenation.com/article/poli...

Spent part of my spring break having to watch Ohio House Republicans berate and gaslight faculty, students, and higher ed leaders who dared to speak up against #SB1, a bill that will do tremendous harm to Ohio’s public colleges and universities. The entire hearing was procedurally dishonest.

Parents, teachers, mental health counselors, coaches, faith leaders & anyone working w/youth should know about the 764 networks & their manipulative, horrific tactics- new FBI warning, h/t @maargentino.com for consistently raising the alarm the past couple years on this www.ic3.gov/PSA/2025/PSA...

In class. On paper.

Someday, in the not too distant future, laws like this will be in every textbook covering corporate and governmental crime and deviance.
