Cannot have bad air quality if there isn't data to tell us that...

If you burn down a forest, you don't miss out on lumber for just that season. You have to replant all the trees, nurture them, and wait for them to grow. The science and research budget cuts happening now are wanton, senseless arson. Recovery, if it ever happens, will take generations.

There are multiple committee chairs and admins (Dean's, provost, etc...) that have done this at Metro. Heck, we have even been encouraged to use Copilot as it is "secure" and "safe". The university presumably has an added subscription to Micr*soft to use Copilot. Absolute shocking behavior

The reason for our poor air quality is a result of the forest fires in Canada. Forest fire smoke is filled with small particles (PM2.5), which can get into our lungs. From the GOES East satellite, you can see the smoke from the Canadian forest fires (dark gray between storm clouds)

I will never not be amazed at past feelings towards "dealing with pollution" (i.e., out of sight, out of mind) and how far we have come in 50 years regarding our views towards dumping waste in the ground. We have made so much progress since the 1970s and 1980s. More work to be done, of course.

Here is information from the MPCA on the Freeway Landfill and the proposals from the MPCA on how to clean up the mess. www.pca.state.mn.us/local-sites-...

The drinking water is very well tested and is safe. Currently the leachate from the landfill does not flow towards the landfill. But once they stop dewatering the quarry and the wate table elevation increases, then the leachate might flow towards places the city would prefer it did not flow.

Solution to pollution...

The Mississippi River has served as Chicago’s dumping ground for over a century, ever since the Chicago River was reversed to send waste downstream. Today, it’s still a sacrifice zone—for ag runoff, industrial pollution, and barge traffic hauling corn, soy, and petrochemicals.
