Of course! This is from part one of the Autumn 2000 directive, 'Gays & Lesbians in the Family' (not how we would approach naming these questions now!). The writer's code is J2893.

We were also particularly honoured to be joined by two of Carl and Bobbie's children, as well as their great grandson who all flew over from Ann Arbor to be with us for the event!

The pair met when Carl was stationed in Essex and the letters in the collection span from their meeting to their eventual marriage and relocation to Michigan. We were joined by two wonderful actors who voiced the letters of Carl and Bobbie.

Writers can respond however they like, they can write or type their responses. We also have lots of people send us creative responses, including art and poetry. For example, we received the below picture in response to recent questions on clothes and personal appearance

We are still carrying out similar work to our 1930s founders! We have approximately 500 volunteers signed up to write for us. Three times a year they get sent a series of questions in the post. Topics can range from experiences of dental care to memories of singing to thoughts on current events

The Archive is a result of the work of Mass Observation, a social research organisation founded in 1937 which aimed to create an ‘anthropology of ourselves’. The team recruited a team of investigators and volunteer writers to study the everyday lives in Britain. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVOE...
