From my experience, hourglass has always been my go-to whenever I wanna learn to do a pose and what not, though the perspective changes from artist to artist and their art style.
For me its just easier to draw rounder shapes but I tend to stylize and break proportions lol

This is for one of my biggest friends who's house burned down today at roughly 5 am, leaving him and his family injured.
