Freedom is not absolute but I definitely enjoy it as is. Can't think of any better alternative.

Why would anyone use git submodules?

Legacy code is like an engine that's on fire.

Software frees your time.. when done right. All technology is like that.

Moar storage moooooar 🚀

You know you're going to have a bad weekend when the alert thread on Friday night looks like this:

I can't study because I don't have enough tomatoes

To me it looks like the skill of navigating legacy code bases will only increase in value in the following years

Everybody has a roadmap, until the requirements change.

A wave from deep space. These red blobs are early-Universe prequel to huge galaxy clusters, found by Webb thanks to its powerful sensitivity. Since the distant is so great, we see them as they were only 650 million years after the big bang. 🔭 🧪

Rules in software: testing matters. Try things out before jumping to conclusions, or worse: shipping your new version.

Here's a nice place to start learning Linux: github.com/bobbyiliev/1...

Amazing coding challenges for any programmer who wants to practice his/her craft: codingchallenges.substack.com/archive?sort... The best part is that John is also publishing the most common mistakes and lessons learned from the submissions he receives. Enjoy!

KeePassXC is the best password manager I've ever used. It gives me all the power and even works without being connected to the internet.

Rules in software: all unfamiliar code looks bad; try to understand before you criticize

Rules in software: fix causes not symptoms. First find the root cause, then fix it.

Rules in software: dependencies are baggage, they get you going fast and then slow you down later when you want to move to a new place

Rules in software: all code is debt, not just the one you don't like; every line is a liability the maintainer has to deal with

Rules in software: an app is never complete, development is ongoing

A backup a day, keeps data recovery away

In 2025, there will be new web developers who've only ever used @svelte.dev. They will think web development has been fun since its inception 😅.

Fun fact, you can see this nebula with the naked eye even from light-polluted places. Look for the middle “star” in Orion’s sword… that’s the Orion Nebula!

Happy New Year Blue Sky!!

I really like it when my little Seestar S50 produces images of astronomical images that make me and others go "Wow". But it's equally fun to see what's beyond the limit of this small telescope. Have a look at this scene here. Nothing special, right? Stars, a galaxy, and... what? 1/ 🔭🧪

Merry Christmas folks!

Merry Christmas folks! Hope you're enjoying a well deserved break.

This looks like a pretty cool Slack alternative: mattermost.com Anyone used it and has any feedback? I'll be trying it out soon.

I didn't about Slack as being slow. Until I had to configure it's robot API for sending messages automatically

Windows networking is rich and mysterious It has so many interfaces one needs to go through, but no one really knows why

I took a break from the internet. It felt amazing. But it also feels great to get back here and see such a welcoming vibe. Cheers 🍻

On the right, a picture by the Hubble Telescope. £16bn, built in the 70s/80s and spent 30 years in space. On the left, a picture by a £900 telescope from 2019. Both are incredible for different reasons. Tech is amazing!
