Brian James RIP Sorry to hear of the passing of the genius guitar player who formed The Damned and created punk rock. louderthanwar.com/brian-james-... via @louderthanwar

More from the Lost Gardens Of London exhibition at the Garden Museum, in Lambeth Palace. Now finished, but there’s a book by Todd Longstaffe-Gowan available #LostGardens

Black Horse Latitude The lyrics from the St Etienne track refer to Bob & Pete's local pub. Photo of the Black Horse, at 37 Wedmore St across from Whittington Park in London, just before it closed in 2008 to be turned into residences. Pete & Bob just lived down the block on Tytherton Road in the 90s.

Not sure why I l have never previously climbed the narrow steps of the tower at the Garden Museum in Lambeth, but I recommend it for these fabulous views #GardenMuseum

Sovietistan by Erika Fatland. Updated paperback of Norwegian writer’s travels through Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan a decade ago. Avoiding post-Soviet cliches, Fatland talks to as many people as she can in Central Asian countries with uncertain futures #BooksBluesky

The Library or Great Room, Kenwood House, Hampstead. Robert Adam remodelled Kenwood in the 1760s, creating the room 1767-69. English Heritage say: “The library in particular, with its neoclassical form, decorative frieze and ceiling paintings by Antonio Zucchi, is one of Adam’s greatest interiors.”

Heron and pigeon, Hampstead Heath #HampsteadHeath

The fabulous Lost Gardens of London exhibition at the Garden Museum in Southwark, next to Lambeth Palace, ends tomorrow. Highly recommended if you have the chance, and a reminder of ephemeral our precious green spaces are, and we we should fight to protect those that have survived #GardenMuseum

Return of a King - The Battle for Afghanistan by William Dalrymple. Scholarly and entertaining account of Britain’s invasion of Afghanistan in 1839, and what happened next. Even those who know this story may be astonished at this comprehensive defeat in the Victorian Great Game #BooksBluesky

Next up! Under the Skin (Jonathan Glazer, UK, 2013) Tues 4 March @ The Star, 8pm www.tufnellparkfilmclub.com/forthcominga...

Fabulous Silk Road exhibitions have just ended at the British Museum & Library, so a good time to praise Peter Frankopan’s magisterial The Silk Roads, a reassessment shifting the cradle of civilisation from the Mediterranean to the heart of Asia, subtitled A New History Of The World #BlueskyBooks

Roberta Flack, soul and R&B icon behind Killing Me Softly, dies aged 88

The Light Festival at Battersea Power Station, which ended last night after a month, with the rain just about holding off. Artists included Studio Vertigo, Amigo & Amigo and Groupe LAPS #BatterseaPowerStation

A Silk Road Oasis: Life in Ancient Dunhuang ends today at the British Library. A companion to the extensive British Museum Silk Roads exhibition, focusing on the remarkable cache of documents found in the Library Cave in the Mogao cave complex, on public display for the first time #BritishLibrary

Shown @tpfilmclub.bsky.social Robert Altman’s magnificent snowbound Western, a sad story of dreamers & losers trying to make their fortune in Presbyterian Church, Washington, coming up against powerful & ruthless forces who will stop at nothing to destroy them. Warren Beatty & Julie Christie star.

Don't mind working in the evening, with views like this 🌇

The Rheinpark Stadion, home of FC Vaduz. Stunning.

Cracking photo, this. It’s important that we continue finding and archiving these pictures as lost clubs like Third Lanark slip from living memory. Hibernian 3-0 Third Lanark Easter Road 21 August, 1963

Looking forward to this one

There's not much better than a winter blue sky (except for any other nice day when it's more than 4 degrees) ❄️☀️ 📷 Alteja Zukaite

Shown by @tpfilmclub.bsky.social in tribute to David Lynch, The Straight Story (1999) is in some ways an outlier in Lynch’s films, but full of charm and his trademark strangeness. A lawnmower road trip through the Midwest, it’s above all about the kindness of strangers #DavidLynch

English cuisine doesn’t always have the absolute best reputation, but who could argue with these Michelin starred examples #Englishfood

The Silk Roads exhibition @thebritishmuseum.bsky.social until February 23. The plural as there were many different trading routes linking Asia, Africa and Europe. From Tang Dynasty China to Sutton Hoo, everything is connected. It’ll be busy, you need a few hours, but definitely worth it #SilkRoads

"Meat paste: the taste that torments!" is not the selling point these ad execs thought it was. This was obviously green lit the wrong side of a Watneys Red Barrel lunch.

From the British Museum Silk Roads exhibition, until 23 February: “This is the earliest known group of chess pieces in the world. Probably originating in India as an aristocratic game, chess spread along Silk Roads routes. These pieces are made of ivory. Excavated in Samarkand, Uzbekistan AD 700s.”

Three years ago today the mezzanine floor collapsed at a Hackney Wick bar, injuring 13 people. Many had been at a football match between @claptoncfc.co.uk and Stonewall FC at the latter’s ground, the London Marathon Community Track at the London Stadium. The incident made headlines around the world.

Moor Park. Home of Lanark United. Also home of the iconic shed, rebuilt after Storm Arwen literally leveled the original in 2021. Looks glorious in 35mm. 📸 @brycecube.bsky.social

This is not just a great piece of music writing by Richard Williams (who I don’t think has migrated from X to BlueSky) but also manages, in a few words, to summarise our historical moment more eloquently than almost anything I’ve recently read.

Last performance of Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell is tonight at the Coach & Horses pub in Greek Street, Soho. Robert Bathurst is amusingly louche as the always thirsty journalist trapped overnight in his favourite pub. Staging the Keith Waterhouse play in the pub where it’s set is inspired #JeffreyPlay

"Sunrise At The Harbor (2)" - Photographed December 13, 2002, at Great Kills Harbor off Staten Island, New York. 📷

Snowy Owl I wouldn't normally post an image like this, but I rarely get the chance to see owls. I don't like to disturb them and respect that they like there space. This one was by the road and photographed from my car at a distance.

Landscape for Fire - in the Anthony McCall: Solid Light exhibition at Tate Modern until April 27. Film of a performance staged on August 27 1973 at a disused airfield in North Wield, Kent #AnthonyMcCall

A work from Tate Modern’s Anthony McCall - Solid Light, on to April 27. McCall showed his film and light works in old New York lofts in the early 1970s. When he took them to a Swedish gallery you couldn’t see them as there was no dust or smoke. Decades later he resumed making them #AnthonyMcCall

Last week I sat down with the families of Bebe King,6, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, who lost their lives in the attack in Southport last year, to hear about their daughters, and why they were so loved. This is their story - www.thetimes.com/article/8f5e...

Anthony McCall: Solid Light @tatemodern.bsky.social until April 27. Immersive work constructed from smoke and light by the pioneering artist, hard to capture, impossible to forget #AnthonyMcCall
