There was a time in America when a Super Bowl ad from a self-declared Nazi touting a website that sells swastika t-shirts would have prompted widespread outrage and apologies from all involved. That time, however, is not February 2025. My newsletter today: www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

This Philly defense is a nightmare!

My top Super Bowl memory is when Musk tweeted “Go Eagles” in 2023 from the game and then deleted it after a similar tweet from Biden got more engagement. Then he flew to Twitter HQ and demanded his workers find out why his posts were doing poorly, starting a multi-day fact finding mission.

The great @kenbensinger.bsky.social found that during the LA fires GoFundMe's CEO also lived in Altadena. Here's his story on evacuating from his home as his company becomes a lifeline for the community: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/09/b...

I'm told TikTok's host (Oracle) and CDN (Akamai) brought it back online today because Trump assured them they'd not be subject to penalties - something he can't entirely promise. Whatever one's feelings on the ban's merit, they're defying federal law based on a not-yet-president's word. Huge gamble

TikTok insiders tell me from Shou Chew on down, there was deep confidence that their 1A arguments would prevail in court. It wasn't until TikTok lost in the Circuit court, I'm told, that contingency plans started to be drawn up. TT execs really believed they would be able to avoid this day.

Just a reminder of some of the context around the TikTok ban: In 2020, Trump tried to ban it via executive order a couple months after K-pop fans used it to organize fake signups to Trump’s Tulsa rally, which led him to publicly overestimate how large the crowd size would be.

I was scrolling TikTok and then it just stopped working. Like reaching the end of the internet. Also the line about Trump on the pop up is kind of wild.

BREAKING: TikTok has shut down in the U.S.

Let it be known we were on the come up 🥲

With barely an hour to go until the Legislature gavels in, a pair of Republicans switched their support to different House speaker candidates. The vote switches effectively canceled each other out, leaving the candidates’ public vote tallies in the same position. www.texastribune.org/2025/01/14/t...

Heartbreaking story from @nolanews.bsky.social’s Blake Paterson on Nikyra Cheyenne Dedeaux — one of the deceased victims: “Did they cover her up with a sheet, Zion?” she asked. “Yeah,” Parsons said. “What does that mean?” The line went silent. Dedeaux didn’t respond. Parsons began to cry.
