I'm told TikTok's host (Oracle) and CDN (Akamai) brought it back online today because Trump assured them they'd not be subject to penalties - something he can't entirely promise.
Whatever one's feelings on the ban's merit, they're defying federal law based on a not-yet-president's word. Huge gamble

The rule of law has been in hospice care for a while here.
It's about who was hosting the data then vs now, and the reason that changed. Did Amazon say it was too risky, despite Trump assurances? Did Akamai reach out first, or did TikTok approach them first? Lots of questions!
The law was passed by the legislative branch and upheld by the judicial, any constitutional lawyers out there? Can the executive branch just be like nah?
There is no danger that Democrats will suddenly become competent and grow a spine.
Now it has been my username so long anything else I try feels weird.
They are committing a rather large crime to please Trump, and he can threaten them with prosecution if they don't pay him bribes.
Not a gamble at all. Rule-of-law is game-over.
It's the same reason why marijuana establishments in WA didn't have to fear federal prosecution during the Biden administration.
The DOJ decides what to enforce. Starting tomorrow that's up to T2.
BUT it’s actually another chink in the armor of democratic norms
There's nothing to stop him.
Working for the Fuhrer is low risk, IMO.

which given how Obama and Biden handled their justice departments... not a terrible bet
This rather narrow wording leads me to assume that Oracle and Akamai are in the clear and that Apple and Google pulling the app from stores means they're clear too.
That I have to even ask this question.
🤦♂️
I've seen people write that the TikTok ban affects only the app store providing the app or updates to the users.
But I've also seen people write that it affects more, including the actual operation of TikTok.
What is the actual scope of the law?
Biden refused to prioritize enforcement of it, calling it a ruse.
Further, any Trump successor could reverse this indulgence in their first year in office, and fine the shit out of ByteDance
Art II, Section 3: The President "shall take care that the laws are faithfully executed..."
Democrats can't prosecute people for helping Republicans. Republicans won't prosecute for helping Republicans. There is no risk involved here.
Now he has TikTok supporting him, he is reversing his mind. Like a FICKLE minded FEMALE
Communist clown
That doesn't seem great. Consider all the avenues an unbound Trump has to nullify acts of Congress. There are a lot.
