It's crazy how brief American history really is. When I was a kid my grandfather told me that when he was young he met a Civil War veteran, who as a child had met a Revolutionary War veteran.

Putting down a pretty thick layer of mulch makes watering a lot easier and less frequent, I've found. I try to do an inch or two of straw.

It really comes down to good watering practices and feeding pretty hard. I had 110 pounds of tomatoes in my deep freeze from last summer, mostly the Salvaterra.

I think it was the end of April or the beginning of May. They were under a small led grow light which makes a big difference. I think it’s about 75 watts. I’ll grow greens indoors now that the veggies are outside.
