New idea for academic conferences: Worst Papers Panels "Stick around after the business meeting for the Division's Top Papers Panel, which will be immediately followed by the Worst Papers Panel."

I'm finding a groove making letterpress pocket notebooks. These were a gift to @mattgrizz.bsky.social's lab, which I've been crashing while on sabbatical. Covers printed w/ vintage metal & wood type on a signpress. Recycled paper inside. (If your lab wants something like this, we can talk!)

Me: Do you guys mind if I order for the table? Everyone: No. Please do. Me:

Books fans! 📖 What is your next book to read❓ Our study shows that two mechanisms drives people reading choices - enjoyment driven and information driven. We also found curiosity fosters people reading enjoyment and encourages exploratory readings. Read our new preprints doi.org/10.21203/rs....

"Let's submit that paper. It's ready to go. Should only take a second to upload it in the Editorial Manager."

Introduce yourself as a TV character

"What do you mean I'm not helping?!" "I mean you're not helping. Why is that, Leon?"

Whoa! Just saw that Opinion Science just crossed another neat milestone: 200,000 downloads! It's certainly not the biggest podcast in the world, but for an indie social science show, I'm pretty proud of that. (And I *promise* more episodes are on their way. Sorry for the delay!)

Can someone try to replicate this error in #microsoft #excel? If I ask for the standard deviation of a constant where the value is 3.12, 3.45, -3.12, or -3.45, I get a value that isn't zero. Note that this isn't true of other numbers like 2, 3.23, etc. What's happening?

Going to start wearing these when I give an exam so students won't know if I'm watching to make sure they keep their eyes on their own paper.

Who wore it better?

Let’s do this: 1) Academia is the whiniest profession I’ve ever worked in 2) This blue sky platform is the most echo chamber social media network I’ve ever been a part of 3) Suburbs are actually not bad
