Two years ago today, after we'd all gawked at photos of stolen classified documents strewn around Mar-a-Lago. In the alternate timeline, things are going fine.

Government efficiency!

Simon & Schuster published Larry McMurtry's tenth novel forty years ago today. The second time I read LONESOME DOVE, in 1992, we were moving from CA to NJ, and @cristinabeltran.bsky.social did most of the driving on bleak I-80 while I read aloud. Ran out of new character voices around Ohio.

Since Trump's birthday parade has no connection to a real-life military engagement: “Instead of honoring the sacrifice of individuals…it becomes a moment of sheer pageantry dedicated to the glory of the state or the head of state. One in which uniforms become costumes.”

Regarding recent immigration actions and the Club World Cup.

“Five months into a second term that began with his attempt to be a peacemaker and a unifier, there is a new conflict roiling the Middle East and no end in sight to the violence in Ukraine.”

National Weather Service: “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!” Trump: “IF THEY SPIT, WE WILL HIT.”

One night some years ago, on E 3rd St, blundered into a couple patiently waiting for the light to cross Lafayette. Then realized I'd nearly knocked over Warren Beatty and Annette Bening.

I don't know how many times these people have to say "non-whites are not americans unless they are part of my inner circle, we want to do ethnic cleansing" before people start listening bsky.app/profile/pale...

People here love to criticize @nytimes.com headlines, but this one is perfect

“Our farmers are being hurt badly by” YOU, asshole. Did Trump think that his Gestapo raids would generate good Fox News clips but have zero real-life impact on people and businesses? I mean . . . maybe? Who among his sycophants and courtiers is likely to tell him the truth about ANYTHING?

Government efficiency!

@anaswanson.bsky.social: "Even if the agreement does prove durable, its big accomplishment appears to be merely returning the countries to a status quo from several months ago, before President Trump provoked tensions with China in early April by ramping up tariffs on goods it produces." Sorry, Brian, I keep thinking of this clip. R.I.P.

Still astonishing that Trump hasn’t found a better on-camera messenger for his tax-cuts-for-billionaires plan than this guy

THOMPSON: Can you point to one independent study performed by an expert PhD economist who is not on the payroll of this administration who says this legislation will not add to our national debt? BESSENT: Yes T: Who? B: Art Laffer T: I don't think that one counts

“He is declaring utterly bogus emergencies for the sake of trying to expand his power, undermine the Constitution and destroy civil liberties,” said @ilyasomin.bsky.social, a libertarian professor at Antonin Scalia Law School

Useful 🧵 as we all think about how to protest most effectively in this new media environment. There will be *many* protests in the next few years, and we need to get it right.

This took a while to get done, but I've chronicled my day among the protesters in Los Angeles, and the idea that this is anything but a celebration of cultural heritage and a firm, nonviolent demand to protect family, friends and neighbors is totally ridiculous. prospect.org/justice/crie...

I never read Frederick Forsyth beyond his 1971 first novel, but that book is pretty perfect. R.I.P. #BookSky www.nytimes.com/2025/06/09/b...

When the world is a monster Bad to swallow you whole Kick the clay that holds the teeth in Throw your trolls out the door @remhq.bsky.social released FABLES OF THE RECONSTRUCTION forty years ago today.

"The mistake in analyzing this crisis is presuming that the Trump administration is the only actor with agency in this situation. Protestors—and potential protestors—also hold some cards. If protestors maintain discipline, and if the protests spread, then the TACO logic will start to kick in."

So glad that ‘TRUMP’ successfully negotiated an end to the War with Russia, something all admit only he could do
